    No More Collector's Editions

I've made a resolution that I will only buy a collectors edition of a game in 2013 if it's worthwhile. Too many times in the last few years I have purchased them just for the sake of it, looked at the items once and never again. I'm just feeling it's a waste for the extra ?10-?20 cost. If it's the same price, then I won't hesitate to get it (IE: Dishonored, Tales of Graces f)

I'm already resisting the Tomb Raider, Ni no Kuni (hard to resist though), and Last of Us editions. Anyone else feel the same way? What's the biggest collectors edition regret you've had?

Mine would be Halo 3. Not just because of poor packaging, but that extra cost just for a book and bonus DVD that I hardly even looked at.

I really liked the Dragon Age 2 one, although the game wasn't great. Getting that content and the bonus soundtrack for same price as standard was nice.

To be honest I only by collectors editions that are the same price or only a little more expensive than standard. There is no point in often reams of needless crap. A nice artbook, soundtrack CD and things like that make a nice CE for me.

Collector editions are worthless unless they are actually individually numbered ie. 1000/7500 god knows how many its "limited" to

In my case, I have no interest in things like figurines - though I know some people really like them.

Personally I really like artbooks - and actual artbooks, not simply a book of promotional images from the game you've already seen in a thousand places online. I mean concept drawings and whatnot. Soundtracks too, if the game has a half-decent one.

Japanese limited editions are not limited as in numbered, but limited because they are produced only once and usually reserves dry up for preorders. Once you know how many copies have been produced, what does it really change? Unless you are one of those collectors planning to keep the edition sealed and/or make profit at a later date with it, you should only care on the content...at least, this is what I usually what I do.
If I have interest in the game and the limited/collector's edition has nice features (artbooks and figures are what usually drags me in, soundtracks tend to be incomplete), I get it, even if it's not limited.

I stopped when I realized that they weren't limited at all. Look at Halo Legendary editions in GAME months after release.

So before this year you paid extra money for stuff you didn't find worthwhile?

As in if it was a game I was really looking forward to, I would automatically buy the collectors edition. I'll only buy them now if there's something in it that I will get use out of.

How would you know if you'd enjoy a game before playing it though?

But anyway, good decision, almost all of those "limited" editions are total crap.

                    Re: No More Collector's Editions

The only limited edition I've ever bought was Lost Planet.

I've never listened to the bonus CD, but I suppose I hammered the bonus map.

I really have no interest in all the gimmicky tat they seem to bundle with these things!

How many people are still driving their RC camera truck whilst wearing their night vision goggles to find their batarang?

I only really care for the CDs, otherwise I find them mainly ridiculous, just tat for tat's sake. Christ, that bloody Fallout 3 one. WHY? More f*ckin' junk n' clutter!

I stopped buying Limited Editions after Gears of War, they are completely pointless in the majority if cases.

The last brilliant LE was Zelda Wind Waker as it came with Ocarina of Time. Most come with a 15 page art book or a CD. Whoop de ****ing do!

They look out of place on a shelf, are used for a few minutes & then never touched again. Don't buy them!

^Good call with WW, I'd also say Quake 4 on 360 as I think it came with a bonus disc containing a port of Quake 2 (though mine's second hand and hasn't got it).

The main issue is they are always mass produced, people don't even collect them for true collector's value.
Nothing great about spending ?59.99 on a collector's edition and finding it in GAME for ?29.99, 9 months later alongside another million copies unsold.
Many moons ago I went into a Gamestation and the GoW 3 Epic Edition stock they had could have lined the entire shop, crazy.
The only limited edition I still own is the Konamistyle Zone of the Enders 2 Anubis Box Set, anything current gen is now gone.

I also think they re-issued Quake 4 without the Quake 2 disc, Quake 2 had a bunch of achievements but they all tallied to 0g.
