      Getting rid of 1UP too.

Some of my favourite gaming podcasts have been produced by the 1UP team.

Used to be the best way of getting your QW/Q2 on.

Think I missed the party on 1UP, but a lot of industry and writer types I hold in high regard came up through there, so 'tis a shame to see it go.

I'd rather see IGN shut down than 1UP - shame to see that website go - hopefully there will be an archive of The 1UP Show put somewhere on the Internet.

What is going to happen to all Gamespy's reviews and other articles? Surely 14 years of material isn't just going to dumped.

I've always gone to Gamespy for older and obscure game reviews as they've usually been thorough, honest and consistently proven reliable.

So does this mean they're shuting down the online services of all the PC games that use their match making? IGN are closing quite a websites today shame they're not closing down themselves as IGN have been a plague on the net games industry for years.

Always think of this when I think of 1UP:

I am not sure if your joking, the primary function as far as I can tell is to create bloat-ware thinly disguised as a game matchmaking/network provider. For some reason they have convinced quite a few studios they need to use this system to network their games.

They also have a magazine site which is owned by the IGN network (I think the whole service is now)

Bloatware lol! Yeah, that fits. Struck me over the years as a peculiar irritant that mostly prevented multiplayer from working.

Funny though i did like 1UP, but gamespy and IGN as credible website are a joke, gamespy helped with getting quicker games of quake, but then as Felix said they bloated it out and pushed it out to games for no apparent reason or making any improvements in the match-making, in fact i'd say it made some games worse, to me their kinda like THQ or Activision and they got lucky in the industry and where there at the right time, but none of this was to do with their talent.

I always hated when games would bandy around Gamespy on their splashscreens I knew it would mean the hell of making it play nice on my machine. I am pretty much sure they where ripe for hackers as well the account system only let you use lowercase characters and a pathetic limit as I remember.

I actually had to make my password really basic just to be able to login.
