    REZ- I dont get it

Had a copy of rez for a while and have palyed it a bit .To be honest, I dont get what all the fuss is about. I find it a bit bland to play. I have Japanese instructions and do not quite understand them so I might be missing something but I really dont get why this game is so great.

Can someone tell give me a run down of how to play the game and why they like this game so much.

    Thanks

You just shoot things - but do it with style.

Are you playing it on a reasonable setup? It doesn't have to be great, just average, decent sound and a half decent screen.

I find the experience is halved when I'm playing it on my 14" bush (sorry) rather than my 17 inch crt with nice fat subwoofer.

Yeh - the better the setup the more you'll enjoy rez.

Play it on a massive tv, thru some decent speakers, real loud, in the dark - become the beat

Think the tagline does a good job of explaining what it's about:

          "Feel it, Don't Think..."

(oh yeah, a nice fat sub and a dark room really does add to the experience.)

It helps a lot if you can bond with the music. Its not really my cup of tea, but I do love its style nonetheless.

I got it a few weeks ago, and it's a very strange game to play...

Forget about spending ages perfecting it, it's an "experience" game. Play it with the lights off, music loud, and on Travelling mode if you can. Then you'll see why it's good.

But on the other hand, it is kinda overrated

How much does the Dreamcast version go for? Jap preferable.

I've never played it on a big screen, just at my mates house on his 17" monitor with weak sound.

Can't wait to play it at 33" over 550w.

I think it's easy to buy this game and feel like you're missing out on something because it doesn't totally blow you away. IMO it's a great game and, as other people have said here, is at its absolute best when played late, large and loud. But I don't think it's the masterpiece that others allude to it being - just an excellent pickup and play type game.

If youre like me, and havent got a massive audio set up, just get a half decent pair of headphones (NOT earphones!) and hook them up to a nice big tv.
Most of the game is simply stunning, but the final level, stage 5, is possibly the most sublime, incredible, uplifting and atmospheric level in any game ever.

I played it for ages trying to perfect certain things. I'm sure that I can shoot down 100% on area 2, but I can't beat the boss. I'll have to go back soon. There is a lot to unlock and the story is really cool. I really enjoy the natural, living presentation of the conputer programs and firewalls. It is a really nice idea and I think executed very well.

But simply, there are very few games that can beat the feeling of completing level 5 at 2am in the complete dark with a lush TV infront of you. Let's say I looked very much like Stroppa's avatar!!

Oh, and david, I got my brand new PAL DC copy for ?30, so I'd expect ?35 or more for the JAP version.

To be frank, I think Rez is one of the few games that I would buy again on another format. I can see myself picking this game up for the PS2 should I get one, and completing the game again, simply becuase it is such a good experience. Should the game not appeal to you, then to be frank, it's your loss because I think that you're missing out on one of the most enjoyable games ever.

I got the DC version before everyone starting hyping it.

I read the SEGA interview and starting hyping it myself to friends.

I get it. Find it bland. Actually, I was seriously pissed off, I had gotten it for a birthday gift, after being asked what i wanted. Felt it was a wasted oppurtunity.

Played it for a day, got all the levels, thought to myself, why do people like it?

Anyway, though I hate it, I realise why some poeple like it. The same reason they like Kubriks "Space Oddysey", which I also hate passionately.

People like them for one simple reason.
                        Acid.

I have never had the oppurtunity to play it on acid, or mushrooms, but those that have, said its a totally different experience.

Same reason why all the hippies loved Space oddysey 2001, drop acid, sit back, and go on one mind bending trip. (ever wonder why that sequence was so long?)

Though without any chemical help, its just bland IMO, some buddies and me tried to play it really drunk, with metallica in the background, (REZ's music isnt entirely my cup of tea, though I do like techno music), and it was not too bad.

In the end we all just resorted to an evening of DC Ikaruga.

try it with some friends, maybe a little drunk, but really, it seems to be more an atmosphere game.

                        Still dont get it though.
Maybe Im just not hardcore enough?

myeh, Im not going to argue, Im too tired......

You sir, are a monster! One of my favourite films and books of all time. Stunning stuff.

You are going to hell for your sins!

were this any other film, Id apologise for offending you, but in this case I dont think I will. I have watched space oddysey 4 times, and still cannot find anything remotely exciting about it, apart from its trippy ending sequence.

I still have NO idea what any of it is about. I kept thinking, "so when does this get interesting?"
IMO people find it interesting because it was never intended to make sense. Ive seen friends watch and go,
"That made no sense, wow, how deep and meaningful it must have been!"
No offence, thats just who I hang out with, I have no idea about your personal film wathcing habits.

Though, I must admit, I never read the book, hence maybe I missed something important.

Anyway, now that Ive found a fan, please type up a paragraph explaining what you like about SO2k1, and Ill read it with interest, though possibly tomorow, since Im going to bed in 5 minutes.

cheers for the alternate opinion though.

The first time I played Rez I had no idea what was going on but everyone around said I was incredible at the game. Then I read the booklet and have been ****e at it ever since.
Its not a party game thats for sure but I would love a copy for my DC.
