Age Of Empires 2 HD Edition

Age Of Empires 2 HD is coming exclusively to Steam next month and will have Steamworkshop integrated into it also. Maybe its just me but i cant really tell that much difference between pre HD and the new version, might as well just play Age Of Empires 3, that has really held up well over the years.

I wish more games got this kind of care. You're right gambit, it doesn't look much different because the original game is all sprite based. This is just the original game, updated with modern features (cloud saves, higher/widescreen resolutions, online that doesn't require msn or whatever, steam workshop etc). Nothing too crazy like what Nintendo is doing with Wind Waker for example, just making a classic game playable and convenient on modern hardware. I hope there's more games that get this kind of love and care!

I too remember back in the day spending many hours on this, it was/is a brilliant RTS. I hope this sells pretty well and that encourges other developers to update older games. I would give anything for an updated Xwing/Tie Fighter game with a slightly spruced up engine and that works with Win 7/8.

I was under the impression that Microsoft canned the series. Glad to hear that there's still life there.

I remember them closing down Ensemble Studios a few years back but i cant remember if they said the said no more AoE.

Age of Empires Online came out after Ensemble was killed. Free to play online game if that's your thing. Still going but I think they've stopped developing new content for it.
