The FUTURE of FPS: omni-treadmill plus VR wowzers

Link to vid of impressive/novelty FPS tech applied to Team Fortress. Alas, no amount of technology will prevent the player looking like a consummate bell-end: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...nd-oculus-rift

That looks hilarious. What is next? Oculus Rift + onacom, or how hardcore gaming, solves world population growth

Gaming has never been cool, if you worry about looking cool to others they you have chosen the wrong hobby

Screw FPS stuff, if that techology was used for something like oblivion/skyrim then i'd be all over it in a flash. I gave up worrying about what i look like, when you have played para para paradise or we cheer in public you become immue to such worrys LOL

The Gadget Show showed that tech last year sometime and BBC's Click featured it a month back. Pretty cool stuff but the iamge quality would drive me nuts with all the tent's texture showing on the image.

Would keep you fit if you applied it to the Souls games, judging by how much gametime I spent sprinting away from things anyway.

I'm certain setups like this existed in the 90s...I remember seeing pictures. Just the 3D graphics back then (combined with the much worse screen technology) meant that it probably created a much less credible experience.

Your probably thinking of the virtuality arcade machines, i remember there been a shooting one using a setup very similar to whats in that vid minus the treadmil i remember the ring been used to sense your orientation to the game world. im glad vr hasn't totally died but back then the technology just wasn't ready for it as it quite frankly the graphics & framerate looked like ****. Now things are a lot more powerful it will be interesting to see how it's used again.

Imagine 4 player skyrim where you could walk & see in first person with head tracking. Like real life AD&D with 3 others joining your party.

VR will get so good no one will ever want to unplug themselves.

That would only be any good if the 'server' was the construct of thoughts belonging to the gamemaster, the fifth person taking part.

The system would have to be rigged into his mind, somehow.

Hmm... the more I read about this Oculus Rift thing the more I think it will become some sort of porno viewing device.
