Or they could just be hedging their bets ... If I ran an online games company I would probably do the same along with Forza, and whatever else I thought might be a launch title. We won't know for sure until its announced.

Hard to tell really, on one hand it seems the obvious thing to have for the new system but on the other hand it's very soon after Halo 4. Maybe a planned reveal of another spin-off?

I said it before. I reckon they've been working on both in tandem this whole time as Halo4 was part of a new trilogy and its obvious the next instalment would be on the new platform (and possibly 360 as well).

It would make sense for them to split resources across both then migrate more to the sequel once Halo4 shipped.

It could easily be a GOTY style version of Halo 4, with Cross platform online play and all the additional content on disc?
They have made it into an annual franchise if you count the remake.
