Shadow of the Eternals: Eternal Darkness 2

Some of the people behind popular Gamecube title Eternal Darkness are working on a spiritual successor which will be partly crowd funded, they hope, starting from next week. Dennis Dyack is offering a helping hand and whilst the above link holds a teaser, on Monday IGN will be hosting a full reveal as the funding attempt starts. Now this is what Kickstarter is for

    I saw this earlier.

    Best.News.Ever.

I am honestly absolutely bloody flipping over the moon about this.

Eternal Darkness is one of my most beloved gaming experiences of all time. Ive not been part of any kickstarter yet, but i will happily spend whatever i can to make this happen. Amazing news

You are the only person I know who actually finished it properly Adam
Once through was enough for me. Fantastic game. My fave bit was when

the save game pretended to corrupt

. I was enraged and then laughed hard.

Funded in one day. Two at the most. Will definitely pitch in something, loved Eternal Darkness.

        My fave bit was when
My first "serious" encounter with an insanity effect was in the second (?) chapter, the one with the girl. I entered a corridor with sliding blades low on health and approached the first waiting for the right time. I moved forward and

my arm blows off. Did the balde hit me? Why can I still run? Then the other arm while away from the blade. WTF? Then the head. And I could still run

. Uh...flash, insanity effect. Absolutely gorgeous.

        But having

the screen turning off while playing on an old CRT

        was priceless.

The most terrifying effect was the one where it

went to the save screen & deleted your saves

, i freaked the first time i saw it lol.

Another eternal darkness would be amazing but i have mixed feelings as the original held up really well been a stand alone title. Another person here who went through the story 3 times to see the true ending, it was that fun to play that it never felt like a chore to do it the other 2 times. One of the hidden gems of the gamecube library, even better the Japanese version was cheap as hell & had full english if you turned it on in the options hehe. Definately got my moneys worth out of that game.

The only part that felt like a chore was

the boss in the church during WWI

, doing it three times wasn't fun for me. Also the

            next-to-last part with the firefighter

wasn't as developed as others, but the rest was a joy to play.
I wonder how much SotE will connect to ED, with four magic foci (and maybe the fabled fifth, the white/light magic) and such: the trailer seem like the retelling of the

            Charlemagne

            chapter.

Amazing news! Probably my favourite game on the cube, and completed it 3 times over for the proper ending! I loved the sanity effects, apart from the ones you guys mention though, as I felt those spoilt the atmosphere of game. I'll admit the

              controller is unplugged!

              one got me though!

thought the batteries in my Wavebird had died!

Story updated to confirm the game will play out over 12 episodes though additional crowdfunding may pay for more. The initial amount sought is $1.5m. Dyack is Chief Creative Officer and it's coming to PC.... and WiiU!!

Indeed. The man is gloriously insane. This article should tell you everything:

                        http://kotaku.com/5955223/what-went-...-x+men-destiny[/B]

Too Human was awful, and X-Men Destiny was garbage because instead of developing it, Dyack syphoned staff and resources from it to work on an Eternal Darkness 2 demo. They spent two years working on a single room demo, that caused the ruination of a decent license and collapse of his company. He intentionally delayed X-Men in order to extort funds out of the publisher, and they called his bluff in the end!

All reports I've heard from former staff on Eternal Darkness have stated that the game was only as good as it was, because they had Nintendo on hand for testing and design assistance.

This is a trainwreck in the making. All I can say is don't be fooled by fond memories of the original Eternal Darkness. Dyack and his team are not capable of replicating that.

Before Silicon Knights cut ties with Japanese powerhouse Nintendo following the 2004 release of Twin Snakes, the studio had crucial outside help for game quality, design and process. "This is the reason for the extremely high quality games that SK built a reputation on," says one source. "Nintendo was going to put their name on the game, so it had to be 'Nintendo quality.'"

"Once [Nintendo] were out of the picture, SK could do whatever they wanted," a source says. "Denis believed that SK was finally out from under the oppressive nature of Nintendo as a publisher. Once Denis was given more freedom, things started to fall apart."

Silicon Knights are like Rare, nothing without Nintendo.

Good news, Eternal Darkness was such a unique gaming experience and I remember it fondly. I completed it 3 times too.

The trailer looks great and looks exactly what you would think a next gen Eternal Darkness would look like. However Im still cautious as Nintendo have chosen not to be involved (there were rumours that there was an ED2 in development for the Wii U but Nintendo canned it) plus we dont know how many of the original team are working on this game.

Another thing is that they are going towards an episodic release with more episodes later if they get funded which could mess up the whole structure of the story.

I really hope this turns out well because although it was rough in certain areas I loved the original Eternal Darkness, it had an amazing sense of atmosphere and theres not really been another game like it since.
