Snaking partly ruined the online in MK DS, but it's a very good game regardless. I had tons of fun with DS, racing with my friend. We made a rule that snaking wasn't allowed. We played something like almost 2,000 VS races alone plus a lot of online.

There is no partly about it ... It completely ruined online as far as I am concerned.

Well, it was fun in the beginning at least, when people didn't know about the possibility of snaking yet. But you're right, it eventually wasn't worth playing online unless you wanted snaking competitions.

For me that wasn't just about the frustration of losing, it was the total lack of satisfaction with winning. When I cease to get pleasure out of doing well in a game, there's just no point in playing.

I still love picking up MK7 and having a few races at medium difficulty but I have no urge to go further.

Fair enough. I've had enormous satisfaction and enjoyment out of 3 starring Wii and particularly 7. And now I have three 100% sugoi desu stars next to my name when I go online it's one of the very few online games I've ever been any good at. Except Ridge Racer 6.

At the end of the day, it's completely subjective.

I like Mario Kart as much as the next person, but I just don't have the same personal connection to the characters and terrains as I do with the Sega ones. I also much prefer the 'arcade racer' feel of Transformed over traditional kart games. That's not to say I don't think the Mario Kart games are great, but subjectively I know which I have more of a personal connection with.

On the other hand, there are people who have been playing the Mario Kart games since 1992, know them inside out and thus prefer those games. No amount of debate about the rubber band AI or snaking will change that.

I really enjoyed all stars racing transformed - albeit with serious flaws with the games testers

A mario and sonic all stars racing transformed would be excellent

                Yup...

It also greatly varies with these games whether you play primarily single player or multiplayer. Kind of a whole different experience depending on the AI.

Definitely. The reason I sank so many hours into MK Wii is because I had the ability to play 3 or 4P splitscreen pretty much daily for over two years. It's where it's at its best. Similarly I rate NSMB Wii much higher than most on here, because I was able to play the entire game through - including getting all the star coins - in 4P. Which was clearly the way it was designed to be played, and I'm sure it was much weaker in single player.

Part of Mario Karts overall decline has been Nintendo's stubbornness when it comes to the weaker aspects. They're masters of game design with their key titles and the series sells a ton so I can see why they feel that way but really at times it's felt strongly that Mario Kart has been short changed a lot of the time. Mario Kart DD was a pretty fugly game but I dismissed it as it was natural for them to adapt the recent Sunshine engine, however when MKWii was revealed I couldn't believe it was still fugly, they couldn't even be arsed to try and match Galaxy's sublime looks. It doesn't make or break the game but to me its indicative of a streak of laziness from Nintendo about the series. Despite their reasonings as well it's simply fact that the tracks are far, far too wide which impacts the sense of speed dramatically.

Hopefully, new Mario means new engine and hopefully MK8 will use that engine so it doesn't look as regressive as Wii did. Hopefully they'll learn that narrow sections can be part of track design also as well as (if not mining Nintendo history) mining Mario's history for course inspiration rather than the same old spins.

With Sonic All Stars Racing, I loved the first for what it was but Transformed walked all over it. Part of me would love to see it as Sumo understand the fan service aspect much better than Nintendo did and the amount of improvement shown between the two games should raise flags with the MK team but on the flip side, with MK8 so close and Transformed so recent I'm not sure it's something that's that worthwhile compared to what Sega and Nintendo could make... that said it'll probably turn out to be Mario and Sonic Tennis...

                      Mario Kart Wii is "fugly"?

Does not understand. It's one of the best looking games in the entire Wii library and looks exactly as a MK game should, bright, fun and colourful.

For me, it it was one of the best looking Wii games it was only due to how little effort many devs made with the system.

I'd argue some of the time it's not quite as good looking as Double Dash which was a generation before it (though clearly it's the same game reworked).

Comparing it to the Wii's best visuals (which admittedly it rarely used) is like night and day. MKWii can be good fun but it's one of Nintendo's laziest hours.

To be fair they reduced their width quite significantly in 7, but I guess that matches up with the fact that it was down to 8 racers again, rather than 12.

The graphics aren't great. I always figured it was because there was a lot more going on than in the beautiful Galaxy games, where clever camera angles and hidden loading could be used to more effectively hide the Wii hardware's weaknesses.

Did people play the Wii game with the wheel or the nunchuk? I always used nunchuk.

Nunchuck for me, never liked the wheel. I'm hoping and aiming for the lurvely Pro Controller with the new one

Nunchuck for me too. The wheel works fine (always had to play with it in multiplayer as my friend wanted the nunchuck and I only have one), but I personally like the analogue stick better for the optimal control.

I for one would absolutely love a Nintendo/Sega Kart game, using the obvious iconic characters from both companies. The tracks could be just brilliant, I would love to be able to drive round a track based on Hyrule or a track from Streets Of Rage etc. That is one game I would kill for and would be much more original that just another Mario Kart games using same typical characters and tracks.
