On the other hand, whatever Sega's recent failings, they have done a good job of managing similar specialist studios in the form of the Creative Assembly and Sports Interactive. If they picked up Atlus, I can see them just leaving them alone to do what they do best.

I'm hoping for Kadokawa personally. They are owed a lot by Index corp and their hands off approach with Grasshopper but clout seems to have helped get their stuff out quicker (and worldwide) with no real problems or censorship

It was announced by Nikkei, but Sega replied that they haven't announced anything yet. Neither a confirmation nor a denial, but it sounds like they're on the right track to get Index, maybe adjusting last hour financial terms. Or maybe battling a latecomer and their bet.

Oh well persona 5 for IOS (and Japanese only) I guess...

                    .... Sega.. FFS

Only glimmer of hope it's not Sega Sammy but a new holding company maybe they will surprise us all and leave them alone and also allow them to localise Segas own games like yakuza 5.... Yeah right that makes too much sense no doubt it will be for persona pachinko

For me, this is good news. Atlus were incompetent with European releases. They were non-existent as a company here. I really don't know why gamers are so down with the Sega buy out.

Hopefully Sega will put the Persona/SMT games on PC now, rather than limiting them to consoles/handhelds as those games deserve a broader audience...

I can give you 3 reasons from the top of my head why people are not happy about this

                        Yakuza 5
                        Phantasy star online 2
                        Valkyria Chronicles

That's a start better to have a long wait and possible pick up by someone like nisa than have no western release at all

Worrying news. Atlus are probably my favourite publisher.

it concerns me because without atlus USA who will localise quirky stuff. Without atlus USA there would have been no international demons souls release etc.

You never know I hear a rumour a few years back atlus approached Sega to localise yakuza 3 and they wouldn't in case it became massive, now they are all in the same overall group Sega (might ... Yeah probably not) allow atlus to localise stuff that wouldn't have seen light over here, probably the best we can hope for is they injected the cash leave them alone and exploit persona for pachinko machines while letting atlus get in with making what they make

The agreement itself shamelessly nicked from gaf

To be fair, there a lot of "quirky" games left untranslated that Atlus would have jumped on during the DS/PS2 days, on multiple formats. Right now XSeed seem to be the publisher to go for those kinds of games, but they are smaller than NISA and their output is therefore limited (but they do one hell of a work).
However, I share the general feeling that Sega isn't the best for Atlus, too many unknowns about localisations and projects udner development...unless they finally bring VC3 over here, of course.
