      Witcher 2 (PC version)

It's mostly due to the length of this gen but so many games fall out my mind over time that its suprising when you remember how much has been and gone. For example, it feels like literally a generation ago that Splinter Cell Conviction came out. Not an amazing game but a sign of how much thought this can take.

I thought of Damon Hill - Souls Kart!

I'm not going next-gen, so when next-gen becomes current-gen and current-gen becomes last-gen, I'm going to work my way through this list!

Nice to see so much love for No More Heroes.

Very hard to narrow the best of this gen to just 10 titles as there have been so many good games, so this list might change at any given day.

From the top of my head:

-Mass Effect 2 - Best of the trilogy. An engaging and epic sci-fi action-RPG with memorable characters.

-Red Dead Redemption - Wild West meets GTA, 'nough said. I'm a big fan of both westerns and open-world games and RDR didn't disappoint. Co-op missions with a friend were a nice extra touch.

-GTA IV + Episodes From Liberty City - The base game has some problems like too samey missions, but all and all I liked it a lot still and the Episodes were very good. Still the best, most realistic sandbox city designed.

-Yakuza 4 - Interesting plot filled with twists, humour and great characters. Authentic Japanese environments and atmosphere. Brutal, over-the-top combat and tons and tons of extra stuff to do.

-Uncharted 2: Among Thieves - Best one of the series. Epic, funny, adventure movie with great characters, which you can play. Better than any modern adventure movie in fact.

-Valkyria Chronicles - Beautiful, watercolour painting anime graphics and addicting semi-real-time strategy gameplay.

-Mario Kart Wii - Tremendous and exciting fun, either online or with four friends sitting on the same sofa.

-Super Mario Galaxy - Platforming and game design perfection. Beautiful looking game that stands proudly even when compared to more powerful Xbox and PS3 games.

-The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword - Classic Zelda gameplay with new twists thrown in. Motion control gameplay done RIGHT. Infact, you don't want to go back to the pad after this.

-No More Heroes - Stylish, cool, funny, original and bat-sh*t insane. Starring the greatest lovable psychopath loser in video game history, with a supporting cast of lunatics to match.

The Last of Us might make the list, but I haven't finished it yet.

Runner ups: Max Payne 3, Rage, Dragon Age Origins, Halo 4, Fallout: New Vegas, Heavy Rain

To check my list was the one I wanted I made a full list of close to 40 games and whittled it down. So, so many games that were so close to inclusion. Last kf Us isn't anywhere near the quality required for me.

                        -Uncharted 2: Amongst Thieves
                        -Super Mario Galaxy
                        -The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
                        -Red Dead Redemption
-Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
                        -Burnout Paradise
                        -Bioshock
                        -Deadly Premonition
                        -Mass Effect 2
-Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

My god I've been trying all morning to come up with a list & it's probably the hardest thing ever.

I honestly can't get it down to anywhere near 10 at the moment.

Going to have to try much harder me thinks

                            The Last of Us
                            Uncharted 2
                            God of War III
                            Dead Space 2
                            Bullet Storm
                            Bayonetta
                            Super Mario Galaxy 2
                            Metal Gear Solid 4
                            Alan Wake
                            Bioshock

I guaran-damn-tee I've forgotten something but those were the first 10 I thought of. I could have included Uncharted 1 & 3 as well as CoD4; MW and one of the Gears of War games.

There have been so many amazing games this gen. Which is funny as I remember at the start many people were worried about what the quality would be like.

Interesting to read these lists and seeing some familiar titles permeating through. As stated by neoboy259, the quality this generation has been perhaps the greatest yet. Good to know that despite all the guff with DLC, DRM, online passes, corporate greed and **** that some absolute classics still managed to emerge from the best creative minds in gaming.

Long live one of the best hobbies and expanders of the imagination!

I was going to put Half-Life 2 in also but it came out in 2004 so doesn't qualify.
