Australia considers banning region locked devices.

By "consider" I mean, some inquiry has recommended it. Whether anyone important will listen is somthing else entirely.

That's interesting, especially when you consider the markup and the strict censorship videogames are subject to in Australia. It would be also interesting to know if this ban to region locking will affect devices other than consoles, like blu-ray, or even Steam.
Should this come to pass, I already see droves of importers get an Australian 3DS or WiiU because it's region free...Nintendo won't drop such a big sub-region, and it the best case scenario every console from now on will be region free or it won't sell n Australia. Ah, dreams.

There doing it because of all the problems they have with being over charged on physical & digital products, especially digital. For example adobe, apple and many others charge double for digital products in Oz over european prices(with no company even bothering with a justification), which is a disgusting practice for digital products, physical you just need to factor in the cost of shipping, which never doubles the cost of a product anyway on enough volume.

Basically its to pave the way for other laws to give the population and government more leverage on how companies price there products, least thats what they hope.
