From 01 August 2022 Quest 2 headsets will be rising in RRP by $100 per SKU

Developed over five years by industry veterans (Metal Gear Solid, Halo, F.E.A.R.), RÉPUBLIQUE VR is a thrilling and topical stealth-action game that explores the perils of government surveillance in the Internet Age.

Had a check and the price hike on Quest 2 has kicked in. That $100 increase on each model has expectedly translated to the usual £100 increase too

£400 for the cheapest model now

I used to get more worked up over that, but 100$ is >£80 these days anyway. Still a ripoff but I don't blame them as much as back-in-the-day when EA charged $-for-£ for Rock Band when that was nearly 2x as much here.

Yeah $100=£100 is now completely accurate, considering ours includes VAT. The exchange rate sucks so badly. We are back to Brexit-just-announced levels of ****tiness against the dollar.

So pretty much £500 if used as a PC headset? I think you have to buy their special link cable to get the required bandwidth (which still isn't actually enough but I digress)?

Only £100 less than a Reverb 2. Ouch. Still, that's not their intended market; they have standalone sewn up. Literally no point even trying to compete there, especially now they've got rid of the mandatory facebook signup. Clearly they were selling it way too cheap beforehand.

You can buy alternatives for PCVR, though they're not cheap. The cable needs to be a little bit more expensive than your typical phone charger because it needs to be long and quite robust. That being said, I recommend doing it via Virtual Desktop if you can, because it's just fantastic to use wirelessly, even if that creates some visual artefacts.

I haven't, but that looks great. I'd like to try it. I did try now sadly defunct The Void's Star Wars VR experience a few years ago, and it was excellent - but this looks like it's the next level up from that technologically.

At £40 for a half an hour experience though, it certainly isn't cheap.

EDIT: Although all of this doesn't sound great -

Interestingly in that thread someone recommends Zero Latency VR as a better alternative, which also has a few UK locations, including Birmingham, Nottingham and Reading as well as London.
