I suppose the exposure might push more sales of the Quest 3.

This issue I have with anyone doing (and relying) on hand-tracking for input is there is a lack of haptic feedback. Buttons work because you can feel buttons working, good buttons work better because they feel better.
No matter how good your tracking tech is, seeing something pressing on a screen is not anywhere close to feeling that you've pressed a button. It sucked on Kinect, it sucks on Quest, and it'll suck on VisionOS too, even after having paid $3499 for it.

@Brad was right! It uses a cord and an external battery of pack!
I have, as pledged, donned the Cone of Shame.
EDIT:
My actual take on this is that I liked the look of it.
It is similar in functionality to existing devices - if not lacking functionality compared to many of them - but I'm going to make what I'm aware is the obvious point that the iPhone was much the same when it was announced.
The trick the iPhone pulled off was making the core experience of doing things like browsing the web, which had long been offered by competitors, an experience which was actually pleasant.
If this can do the same for navigating VR with fingertips, then I think they'll have something they can build on. That's a big 'if', obviously.
I do think the screens sound good. They kept calling it '23 million pixels per eye'. Can someone tell me what resolution that might actually be...?Last edited by wakka; 05-06-2023, 20:30.

It's not a cable it's a rope with a brick on the end
(I haven't bothered looking tbh).
Yeah, there are people defending Apple and the lack of controllers and the price. You don't need controllers, of course, until you need controllers. Just like you don't need a map until you get lost and need a map.

When you need a map you go to a Starbucks and plug your Vision Pro into the wall and open Google Maps. Problem solved.

Most people are saying unlike the PSVR2 this has a much nicer braided cable so it doesn't matter.

Yes, you'll be able to buy the Apple battery holder sash for just $299 as an accessory, you know, if you don't have pockets in your skirt.
Oh I missed that $3499 is the starting price, presumably with only 64GB of storage - and a 2-hour battery life.Last edited by MartyG; 05-06-2023, 20:57.

It's clearly a halo product, I think maybe Apple missed the mark here a bit. It's not going to sell to your average Joe, so they could probably have priced it $5K+ - the market that has the disposable income to drop that much on a 2-hour life device won't flinch at an extra $1,500 + Apple Care.
