No need to panic, one of the most important parts of the Quest 3 launching is safely covered

Good, so that definitely confirms AV1 on Quest 3 - this is really good for wifi streaming from PC, it will mean higher quality visuals due to the better compression for the same bitrate, might even produce better results across wifi 5. Certainly on wifi 6 and 6E, you should see better fidelity on Quest 3 wirelessly.

Make sure you watch it at full 4k. If you're on a phone you'll struggle to see the difference.

You can see the differences in the texture quality in the embed window.

I know you can see some difference; my point was more that the difference in 4k is quite stark.

Texture quality is up from very poor to decent, but its not really a showcase, the texture bump is all that's going for it, flat lifeless green filter for the sea with little to no surface texture, reflections, or lighting. 2D textures for underwater plants and a low polygon model for the second diver.

This is on Steam and PSVR2 and shows the massive step down in graphical quality your putting up with for a standalone headset.

Just don't turn around too quickly, you might get tangled

lol, Its never been an issue so far, i do remember as a kid the dog pulling my NES off the TV stand as he ran in to the room and got caught up in the wires, ahh the 80s. simpler times games on cartridges, rubix cubes, He-Man on TV, down the park for some football, jumpers for goalposts. Rush goalie. Two at the back, three in the middle, four up front, one's gone home for his tea. Beans on toast? Possibly, don't quote me on that. Marvellous.

Amazon have cancelled my pre-order for the 512gb Quest 3.

No info as to why. I got a message saying to expect it by 8pm tomorrow, then an email saying it was cancelled.

I'm trying to get hold of them now.

EDIT: They've directed me to order the 128gb model... I'm starting to wonder if they received any of the 512gbs.

FURTHER EDIT: Amazon are suggesting they over-sold their allocation of 512gb units. The live-chat person can't confirm that they ever received any; but certainly, my problem was that they went to pack it at the warehouse and they simply didn't have enough.

FURTHER FURTHER EDIT: Amazon's livechat have confirmed they sold me a Quest 3 that wasn't allocated. Like they never had it to sell.

ANOTHER EDIT: To say I'm a bit crestfallen would be putting it mildly. Meta can't offer a delivery of the 512gb model until the 25th. I could keep the 128 that Meta are sending me from the 2 orders I placed... But I really wanted the larger model.

EDIT: Honestly... I've checked everywhere and the 128 is still available but the 512 is sold out. I really think Meta have ****ed up here; I think they've underestimated the demand

Bummer, sounds like an Amazon issue mostly though - my 512GB Quest 3 from Meta is preparing to ship, so they definitely had stock if you ordered that day.

Yep, I ordered from Amazon because historically they've been great - but I've never actually ordered something really critical from them.

Okay; so I checked everywhere earlier and the 512gb model was sold out. However, a helpful soul messaged me on Reddit and said that they were briefly in stock at Currys, and looking there, they were available - so I've been able to order that and pay £3 to guarantee delivery before noon tomorrow.

Cancelled the 512 order with Meta; will have to see if the Currys one turns up/is cancelled, and if it is, I'll just re-order with Meta and accept I've gotta wait.

Definitely sounds like that's what Meta has done. Personally, it wouldn't surprise me at all if the 128GB massively outsells the 512GB however, if there's one time that you want to have a large stock available for the latter it would launch day as that's when enthusiasts will be waiting with baited breath

Mines with Curry's, not shipped yet though

I'm undecided about an Elite strap. I had one for the Quest 2 and it was a bit better than the standard one, I've read people praise the one with the battery in it for weight distribution but it's a good jump in change to get it when a 4hr battery life isn't that necessary - 1-1.5hrs playtime tends to be the upper limit for VR so recharging in between isn't an inconvenience. Hard to tell if the new material default Quest 3 strap will be fine to stick with or not.

Apparently you get some sales stats on Australia Amazon; someone there is saying the ratio is 9:5, i.e. 9x128s for every 5x512s, which, within a reasonable margin of error, is 2:1 or one third of sales are 512.

I actually think that might be higher than Meta would've anticipated. You're right in your observation; the day-1 people are probably dominated by 512gb orders, being enthusiasts.

I want to try the default before I do anything.
