This feels more like a balanced review, with lots of positives still but more realistic about things like comfort, AR and the pass through warping. Battery Life feels pretty low for this with an hour and half on more demanding games, with 2ish for less demanding games.

The battery life is broadly comparable to the Quest 2; the device draws a bit more power but the battery is a bit larger. I haven't had a problem with this yet because I don't get along too well with the default strap; I'm going to be ordering the BoboM2 Pro once they have the Quest 3 one readily available, and that has a swappable battery like the Q2 version.

Just installing the SideQuest version of Doom3 on the Quest3. Apparently it adds back in the dynamic shadows and is meant to be amazing; I see some people online who say it's literally the best game on Quest.
It's a real shame that Microsoft, due to HoloLens, don't really patronise the Quest while owning so much stuff that could be great on it.
But if Assassin's Creed: Nexus takes off, we might see a surge of retro re-releases. I don't mind, provided they put in the effort.

It got me thinking though Dishonored would be a better fit for VR, that games slower pace first person view and stealth teleport mechanic, seem practically made for VR.

We'll be nowhere near this but two things that VR headsets need:
1 - Wraparound displays: The clarity of the screens is far enough along that I don't feel a need for much more in terms of fidelity strides, same with the sweet spot that on Quest 3 so far hasn't been a concern. The width of the display though should be next to remove the goggles perspective.
2 - Automatically adjusting calibration: This ones a much more teccy complicated one from a wishlist but the kids wanted to try it at the weekend and then the missus and switching user to user remained an utter nightmare. It would be a dream if the cameras just adjusted for the height difference and the headset could just automatically shift the lenses by reading eye width.

But I think, if it does really well, along with a few other titles like Bulletstorm, it's going to cause a few publishers to wonder if they can raid their fridge. The Quest 3 version of Doom3 runs really well; it's not quite polished enough to be a retail game but honestly it's maybe 90% there. Not every classic console game is worth releasing on VR and there's a concern this might unleash an avalanche of ****... But more content is always a good thing.

If where talking about stuff that would be great for VR i always thought Lightgun games are an Untapped Resource, Virtua Cop, Time Crisis, House of the Dead, Point blank ect but with the walls firmly knocked down non of this stood in front of a virtual arcade machine.Last edited by Lebowski; 17-10-2023, 15:53.

The sign off in that Vid makes no sense "he's gonna dust off his headset and give the full game a try next month" the quest 3 has only been out a week. dose he shed his skin like a lizard? or maybe he's forgot he was talking about a game for a new Headset
I had my fill of AC games after the second game on the Xbox 360. you can sort of see why they would make this as it takes successful elements from other vr games (climbing mechanics and one on one sword fighting) and smushes them together into a franchise. That bit where he was tailing someone in the above vid made me groan, Why do devs think following a set path NPC is good gameplay, Id rank these missions next to escort missions, or missions where you have to follow an npc while they slowly walk though a level and talk at you, forcing you to match their pace.Last edited by Lebowski; 18-10-2023, 12:45.
