What's the point? It'll get 7/8s across the board regardless. It's not a AAA title that needs paid-for reviews so that stops it from getting a 9.

i have to say, I completely dismissed this after CM, but having watched that video of survival mode, this looks utterly superb! Will be interesting to see initial impressions on here after launch. It's got an IGN 7.5 / 8 written all over it, so more interested in fellow forum members feedback on this one.

          Totally agree, Dave.

I wrote this off when I heard it was Ripley's daughter as the protagonist, but the plot is plausible and it's not trying to be an Aliens game, it's an Alien one.

As long as it's not broken or five minutes long, this could be a great "haunted house" experience if played in the dark with headphones on!

          Screw the reviews!

            Ok
            A. Why can't you hold an object and the motion sensor at the same time?

            B. Why wouldn't you just blow the alien up with the multiple gas canisters conveniently left around, using, oh I don't know a flame thrower for example.

Are you talking about Alien: Isolation?

If you've got the motion tracker up, the distance blurs as your gaze focuses on the device in front of you. You can easily flick to another item when you're not looking at it. Even the original AvP game did this.

I'm not sure if the flamethrower is in the main game but I guess it is because it's in the survival mode. Don't forget that in the original Alien they didn't have flamethrowers, they had to be make them:
"Most animals retreat from fire, yes?"
"Fire, yeah. Parker, can you rig three or four incinerator units?"
"Give me about twenty minutes, I'll do it."

It's not an FPS, it's trying to do something different and I really hope it works. Even the gameplay videos are tense!

Can you belly-to-belly suplex the alien through sound-proof glass?

Ok I hear what your saying but that doesn't explain why she's unable to hold a motion tracker and something else, pretty sure I can hold a GPS device and a camera at the same time, did we lose the ability to use both hands in space?

Re the canisters, again, pretty sure she could simply open the valves, then lure the xenomorph (alien), over and toss a lighter in the room, it's not rocket science, thats the single threat dealt with.

Just seems like so many daft things I've spotted in the first 2 mins of that vid would wind me up even more actually playing it.

Why in Res Evil did you have the mobility of a tank? to make the game play even more tense of course.

C'mon, I know games are getting more realistic but give it a break. You could pick apart so many things with Video games, prime one being:-

                      * Why didn't Mario just say 'F**k the princess, plenty of other fish in the sea.'

He kinda does think like that if you choose to sweep up all the stars before getting down to business. I personally never touch the final level before that's done. Although, a much more evident lack of realism comes in the form of Mario's staunch heterosexuality - you could never choose to play a gay Mario, or make him run around wearing nothing but a pair of leather chaps.

Stuff like this does annoy me in games, especially in 2014, but I don't let it spoil things for me usually. You can usually pick holes in any game and most movies.

Res evil came out what, 15 years ago? I would of expected at least a few things to of changed regarding interactivity and being able to handle a situation in a game in my own way.

It's also a bit silly the amount of stuff you can carry in Half-Life or Doom, for instance, and still be able to move, let alone jump!

I know where you're coming from though and some kind of middle ground would be better, but:
                              - It's a survival horror, you're playing it for the tension not explosions
                              - Miss Ripley is not military trained, she's not going to have a load of weapons
                              - She could carry two things at once. She could carry a camera, as you suggest, but why would you when there's an alien stalking you? Selfie?
                              - A flamethrower would require two hands

As for your canister idea, maybe the constant threat of being chomped stops you from prepping your canister trap room? Maybe there's vital info in the room she doesn't want to destroy in her investigation where her mother went. Xenomorphs are cleverer than a dog, so maybe it wouldn't fall for your trap.

I don't know the answer, all I'm saying is that the people who are playing it are too busy worrying where the alien is and hoping it doesn't find them to worry about it.

Plus, it'd be a pretty dull game design and an uninvolving story, if you could trap it and kill it in the first room!

With fishbowlhead on this. Be great if the scenery was actually interactive, giving you multiple ways to kill so leaving it up to the player.
