    Hallowe'en Gaming

What s-c-a-r-y games are we playing this week?

I've just made a start on Yakuza: Dead Souls, and will be getting Luigi's Mansion 2 fired up sometime midweek as well.

This week I'm still finishing Wind Waker so my Halloween spirit is manifesting itself by reading my clothbound copy of Frankenstein by candle light while also munching Pumpkin-shaped Reese's Peanut Buttercups...

Last year I played Costume Quest which for me is the definitive Halloween game. I was going to pick up Resident Evil 4 on Xbox Live this year as I've never played it (Code Veronica is the only RE game I've played and that didn't amaze me tbh) but apparently the port isn't great so I've passed in favour of the book.

I may fire up the Luigi Mansion part of Nintendo Land if I have company, hopefully next year they'll bring out Luigi's Mansion HD on Wii U or even a sequel for Wii U.

The port of Res 4 is fine. Purists/people with higher standards will argue otherwise but for me it was absolutely fine. No work has been done to improve textures or remake it graphically, it is just Resi 4 running at HD resolutions which works for me. Don't be put off, everyone should play this game!

Not sure I'll get any horror in this week, I'm giving all my time to Persona 4. If I was to though, there is Juon and a fan translation of Fatal Frame 4 on the Wii I'd like to try out.

The port of Resi 4 is junk but it's such a good game it doesn't matter anyway. Dead Space is getting action here, superb stuff.

Might give me an excuse to play Resi 2.

I'm not the biggest fan of Resident Evil 4 as a game, but I can't say that I noticed anything wrong with the PS3/360 port. For one thing, it's the only proper widescreen (i.e, not zoomed letterbox) version of the game. Even the Wii version fakes it.

It doesn't even have surround sound.

That's a fair criticism, although Pro Logic 2 isn't proper surround sound to begin with - it simulates the rear speakers but still uses a 2.0 signal. Still, that's careless of Capcom.

Personally, I think actually having true widescreen for the first time tips the balance in favour of the HD ports.

Resident Evil remake on the Gamecube, or a Castlevania.

I can't think of a really good Halloween game. Would love one with pumpkins and fun. Cauldron II perhaps? Could be barely playable for all I know, my memory of the game is very sketchy although I did like it back in the day. We need a gaming equivalent of Halloween 3 Season of the Witch.

                          Not me.

Did anyone play the recent Amnesia sequel? Don't remember seeing a first play thread.

The first Amnesia genuinely scared me, so much that I gave up on it.

I'll be playing Phoenix Wright 5. The second chapter is based around Yōkai, so that's a good enough excuse for me.
                            Kept you waiting, huh?

I was the same with the first Amnesia. I actually had to just stop. Totally freaked me out. A very effective game. Siren Blood Curse is the only other horror game that got too much for me but Amnesia was even more effective than that.
