What if...EA made a console?

Imagine if EA made a console. They are the biggest games publishers today and they just seem to be making Tons and tons of more money then everybody else. So I was thinking about what would happen if they made a console. They have pretty much all the biggest franchises Like Fifa, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, The sims. They aren't all great games (actually none of them are) but they are the best selling and newer audiences to games and many casual gamers would be tempted to buy this console to play those games. Many other publishers would then have to publish games on the EA console or suffer. Soon, EA would be a massive global corporation that watches us whilst we sleep and controls who we should be friends with and enforces euthanasia at thirty by implanting a buzzing light in the palm of your hand!!!!

Well maybe...I don't think Ea would ever release a console because they seem to realise that they can make more money by releasing on all the current formats. And, after all, isn't money the most important thing?

Arguably EA "Made" the 3do.....kinda.....I am sure someone else can fill in the gaps

Trip Hawkins left EA (where he was CEO) to form 3DO, with strong software support from EA.

The 3DO died a nasty death.

So yeah, EA have kind of tried it before. I can't see them wanting get their hands burnt again, but if Nintendo drop out of the console business (very big if) who knows.

I suspect Sony would pay them not to, given the drop in revenue if a) the console was succsesful and b) EA made all their games home console exclusive (and of course they would).

FIFA sells PS2s, after all.

Maybe they can make more money by developing for all the consoles instead of making their own?

They'd make far more money selling games on three platforms (plus PC) than they would by setting up their own console and producing games exclusively.

Then there's the huge costs of R&D, setting up production and marketing that they'd need to get back, quickly.

The last EA game I bought was Road Rash 2 on the mega drive.
None of their newer games have ever appealed to me. The only other EA game I can think of that seems good is Medal of Honor?. But I doubt I would buy it? at least not new.

Pfff, Logan's run. What a crap movie. Shame they always show it. Logan's partner (the actor Richard Jordan) just about manages to save it with his superb performance, but everyone else in it, is so, so.. so insipid. You can't actually picture them as rebels.

Worse than the matrix. Wusses save humanity, yeah right...

And EA make a console? God, who's face would they splash across it? It would have to be some licensced famous dude that everybody knows, but who has no soul or passion in them. Heck, the perfect representative for most (note the most bit, not all) of their games
