Ubisoft is said to be working on two seperate AC games for next year, one for current gen and one for next gen. Both could be side entries like Brotherhood and Revelations were but more likely is the current gen one is a side story title and the next gen one is this next true entry to gain a foothold in the new machines market without compromising the engine.

Shiny next gen graphics go surprisingly far in fooling people. Just look at this forum.
Even one AC would be too much at this point, let alone TWO. That's just crazy. They need a complete over-haul to fix the outdated mechanics (they were outdated when AC1 came out!) and rebuild the game from the ground.

Its pretty telling when i used to get really excited at the prospect of a new Assassins Creed game but even im starting to get tired of the yearly releases and i am big fan of the series, its just getting to the point of saturation. I do wish it was set in Victorian London but i am a biased as im British. Being set in Paris is for me personally a very boring city.

I wonder how much of that trailer was in game? If it is the case it looks just stunning, I truly hope this is the case. Just hope Ubisoft aren't getting my hopes up. If they are correct in saying it's been in development for 3 years then in theory they have had plenty of time getting to grips with new hardware.

Wasn't the whole point of the trailer that it is in game alpha footage? However not going to take that as being indicative of the final appearance as it was a blank canvas so to speak. I think once they add all the systems and npcs etc they will have to dial it back a bit but I don't think that isn't achievable as that is what we will hopefully be seeing end of this year/next.
I can't believe people are slating Paris, it is an awesome city. Going to love hearing accordion music on the streets and the french dialog (hate spanish, it was the major fault of IV, even if realistic).

Whilst I've enjoyed the AC games, I do agree that they're getting too saturated (would that be the right term?).
I've only managed to play 1&2, though I have Brotherhood/Revelations/3 on my shelf/PSPlus. I can only assume I didn't play them at the time because I heard (probably erroneously) that Brotherhood was too much like 2, that people didn't like Revelations (because it had some kind of abrasive tower defence minigame) and 3 seemed to get a lot of criticism on consoles for poor performance (and I've heard so much about Ubi's draconian DRM on PC, which I don't feel inclined to investigate so I just don't buy Ubi PC games). That might all be a bit of a mess, but it's where I've been left after several years of annual releases.
