    PTE56: Legends of the Night

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Darkstalkers series. It's something of an underdog series from Capcom, always lurking around without ever being in the top popularity tier of their fighters and after a recent attempt to bring it back Capcom is keeping this series in the vault for now.

What are your memories of the series though and what is your favourite entry?

I remember buying an issue of CVG with a bright orange cover and image of Felicia on it before a car journey to visit family in Wales. Was it 1995!?!?

Inside was a review of (I think) Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors which got a "High Five" rating. I read that review so many times! I was amazed by the detail of the backgrounds and the use of monsters as characters.

I recently bought Darkstalkers Resurrection on PS3 but haven't played it much. I've always found beat 'em ups to be better in 2 player but none of my local friends are really into them and I don't like playing online.

I have always loved Darkstalkers from the very first moment I saw it in an arcade. The characters are brilliant, moves tons of fun and the animation is superb. And the backgrounds are great too. Loved each sequel although the system limits divided the Darkstalkers 4 versions and many home versions lacked elements (like proper endings, for example).

My one issue with Darkstalkers has always been the control. Close enough to SF yet far enough away to be totally confusing. I never remember most of the moves and have to relearn it every single time play. While hardcore DS players may hate it, I always wanted them to simplify the special moves all down to more familiar SF commands.

I've never really played Darkstalkers games that much, only a few times, but I think that the character design is fantastic and really original and interesting. Lovely animations too like Dogg said. Was there an HD remake of some game recently?
