The ultimate HD edition of Resident Evil™ 4 is heading for PC digital download on Steam? globally and available as a retail version for Windows PC in Europe. PC gamers will be able to play the groundbreaking survival horror masterpiece in the highest visual fidelity ever with stunning HD running at a smooth 60 frames per second for the first time. Resident Evil 4 will be available from February 28, 2014 for €19.99/$19.99.

Alongside the announcement, the Steam pre-order campaign has also gone live today which includes a digital soundtrack with more than 60 tracks and a digital artbook for those that purchase early. Details can be found at http://store.steampowered.com/app/254700. Resident Evil 4 will include Steam platform support with Steam Achievements, Steam Cloud, Steam Trading Cards, global leaderboards, and full game controller support. The new PC version will include everything from the prior iterations including subtitle support in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese and Polish as well as previously released bonus content such as the Separate Ways epilogue.

Resident Evil 4 received numerous "Game of the Year" awards when it debuted and currently stands as one of the best-reviewed games of all time with an incredible 96 ranking on MetaCritic. A complete visual overhaul has been performed to bring this revered title to the highest graphical quality ever. Fully optimized for the wide screen, texts have been sharpened and textures have been upgraded on characters, backgrounds and in-game objects.

In Resident Evil 4, special agent Leon S. Kennedy is sent on a mission to rescue the U.S. President's daughter who has been kidnapped. Finding his way to a rural village in Europe, he faces new threats that are a departure from the traditional lumbering zombie enemies of the earlier installments in the series. Leon battles horrific new creatures infested by a new threat called Las Plagas and faces off against an aggressive group of enemies including mind-controlled villagers that are tied to Los Illuminados, the mysterious cult which is behind the abduction.

To complement the exciting new direction, the game introduced a modernized control scheme, rear third person view and gameplay mechanics which have blazed the trail for subsequent action titles.

Did Terry Tibbs write this press release?

That looks weird at 60fps. Played it so many times on console the difference is really noticeable.

EDIT - Just looked at the screenshots, that looks really nice.

Didn't modders fix the original PC release up with better textures and the like. I'd prefer it if Capcom spent the money on a Dragons Dogma port with 60fps, that would be fantastic.

The screenshots don't really say much on steam.

Textures are probably better, but the screenies dont seem to do them justice.

            Perhaps its my eyes.

One of the best games of all time

I remember the mod patch making a huge difference to the visual quality and putting it back on par with the GC version. The original release was HORRIBLE! think they added keyboard mouse support too (my pc was too pants to tun it at the time ).

I don't think this game needed 60fps but hey ho, seeing the trailer makes me want to play through it again. I have the HD Ps3 version on my hdd, I think mouse support for pc would make it too easy no?

Would love for this to come to PS4, not played it since the 'Cube version.

The original GC version is still probably the best. The PS2 version didn't look as good and the controls on the Wii version although well done made it a bit easy. The AI/difficulty weren't adapted to them. Separate Ways was garbage to play and added nothing of interest. Indicative of Capcom's loss of talent since it was by another team.

60fps is good to have but still low res blurry textures. Have they no longer got the ability to make a new game as good as this that they have to keep regurgitating the same thing again?

background textures look still very much low res, so it's maybe better to wait for the inevitable true HD mod

just checked all the versions available and found there is even a iPad version. anyone played this?

I'm guessing this is just a PC port of the Ps3/360 HD version, which didn't have any textures updated from the original Cube version.

The PS3 and Xbox 360 game were proper 16:9 widescreen, at least. Even the Wii version used zoomed letterbox nonsense.

I have the apk for the Korea-only Android version somewhere. It ran very well but I hate controls on tablets so never played it much. Looked decent though.

Apparently the mobile version just ends at the Verdugo fight. No explanation or ending, you complete it and that's the game done. Don't know if that was ever fixed though.

I liked the Wii version because of the controls but yeah, they should have increased the difficulty to compensate. Can't see the point in playing it on any other platform now.
