Gaming journalism is mostly amateurish and basically PR. Bar a few features, information is the same.

Mostly they consist of arrogant twats shouting at each other and trying to get one over on each other. No I'm not talking about the comment sections, I'm talking about the 'journalists' that write for IGN etc.

Just look at that tit that reviewed EDF? Then look at the fool that allowed her to go with it. Also look at that bint who writes for I think IGN and The Guardian. She is clueless but put the odd piece up containing some flaky philosophy and wins a writers award!

When Edge launched in really brought a professional feel to the industry. That's since been stamped out and replaced with nothing by egotistical writers and desperation for a real way into the industry.

And a lot of reviews seem to be in controlled events where all "journalists" attend an event hosted by the publisher, LAN play etc. So not the same as a real review IMHO. Be interesting to see what happens with Titanfall reviews.

On the subject of NDA's I bet they have all seen (or even played) Titanfall on the 360 but can't a word because of the NDA.

dunno if its rose tinted glasses or if my memory is bad but i swear when it was games mags they would have reviews before the game was even out and now with the internet its on or after the game is released (so much for internet speeding things up )

i wonder if some sites reviews for sim city and diablo 3 were done in controlled conditions and missed out on the server issues

Film is a more mature medium, which is why you get debate and credible critics, even if the average moviegoer nowadays can't think past the sociopathic comic characters and stupid romcoms and the rest of that crap. Try a little harder and you'll find plenty of indie and international titles that put Hollywood's crap to shame, and matching reviews to boot.

Games are still mostly considered games.

It's crazy, isn't it. As journalists, surely NDAs represent a conflict of interest? It would be their *job* to break the NDA and report about the game.

Yeah and thats the problem as then publishers can with hold exclusives its a real catch 22 situation also look at whats happening on you tube people who just review games and do not get exclusives getting videos taken down or copyright strikes just because the game got panned

              Such as a example here
