I actually had no idea that that's how Games With Gold works, I assumed it was the same as PS+ (I don't own an Xbox any more).

I fully agree with you that it should work like PS+. Giving people ancient software they can keep forever is not particularly beneficial if they don't want that software in the first place. It all feels very half-baked at the moment.

Gold could keep the 360 going as a viable revenue stream from subs alone if they release decent games on the service.

True. Then, of course, titles like Onimusha on PS2 were tarted up PS1 games.

Well I wouldn't call VF or Daytona 100% original , they were ports in their own right . And the likes of Ryse, Knack, Froza 5 aren't ports .

From the 3DO but still ports from a older console , even the 360 launched with the likes of Gun and COD which were ports . Games like Mickey Mouse, Earthworm Jim 2 , Worms, Mega Man X3, Viewpoint, Lunar 1, Lunar 2 , Raiden , NBA Jam were on the 16 bit consoles but made their way to the PS ECT

Regardless, there was a lot more original software. The DC was blighted with weak PS ports but in itself had lots of original stuff.

Cross gen development is certainly worst this gen.

Weak ports are nothing something the PS 4 or X Box 1 suffer from; The likes of FIFA 14, BF 4 are way and above anything the old gen consoles could do or handle and its not like Madden or Fifa on the PS2 were amazing to start off with and compared to the god awful PS3 and XBox 360 launch line ups, the XBox One's was much better.

In a year time the PS4 and XBox will have a line up as good as anything seen for the 1st year on the 360 and PS3 imo

For me personally the 360's launch lineup rinses the games available for PS4 and XBOne combined at this stage. I thought all of the following were superb games:
Amped 3, CoD 2, Condemned, Kameo, Perfect Dark Zero, Ridge Racer 6, Quake 4

So far this "next gen" has precious little for me that looks interesting outside of BF4 and Dead Rising 3.

Fifa 14 is marginally better on PS4 over PS3, that is a fact. B4 is much better yes but part of that is how shoddy the work was on last gen.

You have to take it into context though. PS4 and Xbox One offer some great games for sure, not doubting that. Very little is new or exclusive though unlike what you got with previous generations.

Although Titanfall has just changed that but even that is on 360 and is probably still really fun.

I don't think it makes sense for MS or Sony to ditch current gen consoles, still plenty of money to be made out of both systems for people not yet jumping to the new systems. But I for one am looking forward to seeing next gen only games like the new Arkham game being announced with no previous gen versions in mind. I do think this will be the final year for major multi gen titles coming out.

Personally now Dark Souls 2 has been released it pretty much marks the end of the previous gen for me, I very much doubt I shall be buying anything further for the old systems. I will be keeping the PS3 for now but my Xbox 360 is going to be sold on to make room.

Please.... Fifa is miles better on the XBox 1 than on the XBox 360 . It runs in true 1080p, double the frame rate as well as tons more detail on the players and the backgrounds, never mind much more animation .

Amped 3, CoD 2, Condemned, Kameo, Perfect Dark Zero, Ridge Racer 6, Quake 4
COD was a port of a PC game and had pants online modes in comparison with just a weedy 8 players , PDZ was an utter **** feast in my book, Quake 4 a **** port of not the greatest PC game in the world and even they run at half the frame rate and Kameo played worse and barley looked any better than Conkers on the XBox . The only games to really impress me on launch were DOA IV and PGR 3 and well on the PS3 it was just Motorstorm but that could just be me

It does not run at double the frame rate. Both are 60fps and who cares about the slightly better visuals. It's a bit better, a 9 over an 8.5.

Why would being a port of a PC game count against it? If we're thinking of things in that manner then these new consoles have even less to set them apart - as the likes of BF4 is better on PC. I don't see why the player count was a problem, having less players can make things less random and more skill based, as every player's actions matter. We used to have some awesomely tense 6 player matches on CoD 2.

The frame rate issues only cropped up when playing in HD - if you played in SD the frame rate was smooth throughout.
Plus it had awesome multiplayer in the form of a full 4-player split screen version of Quake 2 - which you couldn't get anywhere else (and barring UT3 is still one of the few games with old school Quake-style multi on the system to date in the form of its online multiplayer)

I seem to recall a lot of shader effects in Kameo that the Xbox would have struggled with, but ignoring the graphics for a moment, it provided a huge degree of platforming and puzzling variety with all the different monsters especially if trying to 100% it. Comparatively it may not have been a looker but it offered a pretty varied gameplay experience which is what's most important.

My brother kid had Fifa on his 360 and the XBox One leaves it standing in the audio and visual dept , its not just a simple port of the 360 version, but a massive improvement visually ...

Some here are saying the the XBox 1 and PS4 are made up of PC ports and look over the fact that the 360 also had its fair share of PC ports and in most cases suffered in the port down; Also 8 Vs players was really crap in COD 2 on the 360 and its leaderboard systems was basic and in many ways a step backwards to what we saw on the old XBox.

Well that the res I liked to play the game and it still run at half the frame rate of the PC .

I thought it was average at best and didn't really look that great and the less said about PDZ the better . PGR 3 was the game that tried to show off some of the 360 power

I never said Fifa was not improved. However it's a marginal step up in all terms, not a new console worth of improvements.

The visuals, while better, are nowhere near a generational jump. The lighting still sucks and it looks very last gen at times. Pretty much the entire community was disappointed with the so called next gen visuals.

I don't know. If they had committed to keeping the 360 alive I would have bought games for it still. As it stands, and knowing I will not be buying an XBOne, I think MS won't be seeing many, if any, games being bought by me for their systems. My medium term future will be PC, Wii U and, when I can be arsed, on PS4.

I hope they don't kill off the 360. I have just brought a xbone but unless there is a backward compatible option at some date (online emu or whatever) I want to be able to play games that I have on the 360 online. I was grossly disappointed when they shut down the live support for the xbox, as I love sf3 and having the online mode was bliss. As was chaos theory coop. I sure that everyone has a game or two that they love which they'd go back to or be disappointed of they lost part of the game. I sure there is a way for 360 to be emulated using the cloud and I'm sure that if existing players could keep their collections without the need to have old machines they'd be more likely too grate to the newer unit, saving the ms a load of money on hardware production.
