    Skylanders: Trap Team

Another year brings with it another version of the game/toy series.

Out in October, this years versions spin is that the gameplay now involves capturing villains which you can trap in new toys which have small speakers built in so you can hear them cry to be free. When ready you can return them to the game to use as a playable character.

Cant believe theirs another new portal, that seems a bit greedy considering parents where required to get one last time too. At least with the jump between Spyro's adventure and Skylander giants they let you get a booster pack with just the game and a giant. Add in another another 50 new Characters as well as a new game-play mechanic that is very dependent on capture crystals and you have a very aggressive push to get kids to buy more figures and acessories.

No doubt they will be packing these crystals together with the characters to keep the price up nearer the ?15 per swap-force character RRP. as we have a house full of Swap force/giants/standard/lightforce figures, i think i will encourage a skip of this one. swap force got relegated in favor of Lego marvel superheros and the Lego movie games pretty quickly this time.

And only two characters included, didn't the starter pack always come with three?
The game I enjoyed most in the series was Spyro's Adventure on the 3DS to be honest, you can jump on the 3DS version and it was really enjoyable if somewhat simplistic.
Swap Force is about ?25 in CEX now, am tempted to give it a whirl at that sort of price.

If the gameplay is otherwise the same, I think my kids will be bored very quickly. No way I'm getting this.

The greedy push that will ultimately ruin the franchise has started. Nice one Acitivision.

I really thought Disney would smash sky landers to pieces, then again they may still manage it with the Infinity 2 Marvel figures, even I am tempted by the prospect of those bad boys, have an x-men collection.

Classic Activision though, draining the cash cow until there is no more cash to drain and driving it into the ground.
They could get 2-3 years out of each sky lander game, expanding the figures. I'm sure they already thought of that though.

Its got greedier and greedier as its gone on The first game could be finished completely with one full set of elements or 8 figures. giants only really required you to have one giant to accesses all the giant powers, so if you had a set of elements from the first game and just got the booster pack you could see everything in the game.

swap-force introduced gates that required a specific combination of characters to open so to see everything you have to have a swap character of every element, they also introduced character specific ability's, that only appear on certain characters and two of the last released characters had these ability's, making the game not completable 100% till quite a few months after launch.

this one takes your portal and collection back to square one and makes it essentially useless if you want to get the most out of this game, as the capture mechanic is this Christmas's new cash grab.

Bought Swap Force earlier this year and enjoyed it, despite only having fire, life, water and air elements. For Trap Team, could I get standard earth, magic, tech and undead Skylanders to open all 8 elemental gates or do I have to buy all elements again as Trap Masters? Its a bit confusing...

My son and I have just completed the initial story mode of Trap Team this morning. All in all he has around 40 Skylanders across the 4 games but we've only been able to view a few of the secret areas in TT because we've only got the Trap Masters that come with the starter pack and not for the other 6 - 8 elements. As he's only 5 he's really not fussed about missing out on them, he''d rather have new characters that he likes the look of whether they are Trap Masters and unlock areas or not. He seems content just replaying levels or the arena/challenges over and over as is.

You need Trap Masters to open elemental gates, unlike previous games.

At what points does the game do a progress save? Is it only right at the end of a level?
