Bored at Work : Plans for Donkey Kong

Right having some time to think of pointless subjects, I have come up for an idea for an Epic Donkey Kong adventure game to launch with N5 as the flagship title. Lets call it "Donkey Kong: Legend of Jumpman".

The game looks like your normal 3D platformer, but there will be some gameplay twists.

I will go through the storyline -

DK is mincing about in the jungle, when he hears the screams of a girl. On examination through the Donkey Scope he sees that a girl is trapped in the lair of a giant snake out in the middle of the jungle. Old Grampa Kong sends him on his way to do the right thing and rescue the girl. So off DK trots through a few jungled stages of platform larks, using his moveset of Jump, Punch, Headbutt, Stomp and Swing (from vines). Bananas ARE in this game for health reasons only. On arrival at the Jungle Clearing, DK has his first boss battle - The Giant Snake. Right ok thats out of the way.

The girl is so thankful and introduces herself as "Pauline" (see where this is headed). She acts so greatful, giving DK a food treat and cuddling him. DK takes Pauline back to the Kong Village to meet the others and learn more. She spouts some story about being lost out here after her jeep broke down or something. All of a sudden, there is commotion down below the trees.. A strange overalled moustached man is kicking up a stink (looks like Mario but IS NOT HIM). Pauline reveals this to be "her boyfriend" Jumpman who gets very jealous of other people giving her attention. Turns out Jumpman is kitted up with some weaponary. Welcome to 2003 DK. Right so this leads onto the next stage...

A mock up of the classic Donkey Kong Arcade game but in 3D and you now play as DK. Jumpman is running up a moutain slope, trying to get to his girlfriend. All the time he is shouting out threats and so forth. Pauline is acting all hysterical. DK being the gentleman donkey takes matters into his own hands. Using barrels (normal or exploding optional), You must lob them down the slope, trying to prevent Jumpman from reaching the top. Turns out his weaponary is some kind of stun gun as shown on some innocent apes when he arrived. The key will be to throw an exploding barrel to get Jumpman to jump into a following normal barrel, then another exploding whilst he is stunned. If you fail, he gets to the top and stuns you and you wake up in a zoo (BIG storyline clue).

Right so Jumpman is nailed. Pauline suddenly goes skits. She turns to DK - You think you are big and tough eh? She slaps DK down and he falls down a ridge and into a bush. Maybe also turns out that food from earlier was laced with sleepy sleepy powder. On waking up he sees Pauline and Jumpman escaping with an escort of trucks and wagons carrying...DKs family and friends all caged! Pauline and Jumpman were hunters!

Ok so there is your twist and historical rewrite. DK then has a chase scene where you ride a Rhino and throw things trying to rescue your friends. You will only manage to rescue 1 before the wagons escape. Parts of the game include a Kongo River Rapids rafting (which is optional and skips a few levels due to its toughness. If you complete the game using this route it unlocks the Kongo River Rapids Championship Racing game mode). Also there will be some co-op play with Diddy once you rescue him. Robotic Apes and other hunters are the enemies. Final battle could be Jumpman in a gigantic robot gorilla followed by Pauline and Jumpman doing some sort of co-op attacking and finally Jumpman with his stun gun.

    [boredom vented!]

Dear lord. It's worse than Crispin going on about Pokemon. Better than another BMX game I suppose

        I would never have guessed.

At work yesterday I got so bored, I formulated new plots and stories for The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones so that they weren't ****.

I've also done that many, many times.

FFS - if only I'd have been given the directors chair.
