The Legend of Zelda XVI: WiiU

Very far away but if all goes according to Nintendo's plan this open world entry will be WiiU's big game for 2015, presumably Xmas. Visually it's looking nice, kind of a Wind Waker/Skyward Sword hybrid. Not much else was revealed except this media:

Miyamoto shies away from the game being a true open world. I'm expecting that field to just be like Hyrule field in Ocarina only you can tackle dungeons in any order and their are more distractions

"Open world" design is only as good as you make it. If it's too vast you can't make enough meaningful content in there (case in point Fallout 3, Just Cause), but it can also work (GTA V). Personally, I'll much rather have a smaller world that's more defined and filled with unique, interesting things than huge landscapes filled with copy-pasted dungeons and caves.

Where does the name come from? Is it really the 16th Zelda game? The Legend of Zelda XVI

That's not the official name, it's just Mr. Superman's title. I guess if you count the Oracle games on Gameboy etc. this is the 16th Zelda game.

LoZ, Adventure of Link, Link to the Past (SNES and GBA versions counted as one), Link's Awakening (GB and GBC versions counted as one), Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, the three CD-I games, the two Oracle games, Minish Cap, Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks, Link Between Worlds... actually I make this Legend of Zelda XIX

(I'm guessing Superman isn't counting the CD-I games heh)

Won't even probably end up coming out on WiiU, will be a title for Nintendo's next console they have pulled that crap so many times.

Yup that's what I reckon. Purely because the Mario Kart 8 sales inflation will end shortly and the Wii U will be back to selling 3 consoles a year or something...

                    "So many times"?

They did it with Twilight Princess, and even that was on both platforms.

None of the prior Zelda games jumped platform to my recollection. I struggle to think of one core Nintendo title that has.

Starfox had a sequel scrapped for the SNES, and Dinosaur Planet for the N64 became Starfox Adventures for the GC, but I can't think of any other examples.

I wasn't specifically on about Zelda games only,

Paper mario 2 was meant to be on N64 it ended up on GC
Super paper mario should have been on GC it ended up on Wii
Twilight princess was finished & should have been released ages ago on GC but they sat on it for ages so they could put it on Wii as well
Pikmin 3 was meant to be on Wii it ended up on WiiU

They have a habit of announcing games then dragging out development to the point that the next console has come along & they end up on that instead, that's assuming they even get released at all. I don't buy a console on the basis of vague announcements i buy it on the games actually released & lets face it the WiiU has nowhere enough games out for it.

The zelda footage looked so rushed & cobbled together showing what basically amounted to a animated screensaver & some rendered footage that they probably cobbled together at E3 to try & get people thinking it was coming soon.

I'm still not sure they've done it enough to start thinking of it as a habitual pattern though, especially when you consider the number of games they tend to release year-on-year (plus, I don't remember Paper Mario 2 ever being an N64 game - first time I heard of it, the GameCube was already a couple of years old).

Nope it was a N64DD game actually but when that thing went tits up it reappeared on the cube instead.

I don't think they will do that. We had MK8 in May and they will probably release Smash Bros in late Sep/early Oct. They just need to keep things bubbling over with Hyrule Warriors and Bayonetta 2 until another big game in spring 2015. Then an E3 2015 Zelda blow out will pave the way to a pre-crimbo release.
