So, I've gone cross gen here to fill the numbers, make it more competitive and to make the next poll list more digestible. Three formats that offer varying power in their claimed gens but all come a similar era of machines and titles. Which console had the best quality first year of releases?

Voted N64, though weren't first party PAL games something like ?60 each here? Remember it being a tough year on the wallet.
Sure I bought ten of those games at launch, chuck in a console and bits too and that's like a grand almost. Yikes.

Jaguar shouldn't really be in this list, comparing a 1993 system with one from 1999 is a bit harsh. Not to mention that only the Blitter and Object Processor were 64 bit, all the workhorse work went on the 32bit RISCs and 68000.

As a heads up the list for the Jag is incorrect, actually including some CD releases and other 1995 bits in there and not the launch window titles.

The N64 should have been included with the Saturn and PSX, and then generation 5 being Cube, Xbox, DC and PS2.

Easily the DC for me. In fact I'm looking at that list and thinking that has to be a mistake. Could those games really have all come out in the first year (Powerstone 1 and 2 in the same year? CvSNK 1 and 2)? Really does put more recent systems into perspective. We've got to the point where we see the post-launch drought as normal and acceptable but the big thing these polls are showing me is that it was not always this way. Not even close.

Much to my surprise, I'm actually voting for the Dreamcast. I say that because I liked both machines, had both within year 1, and the N64 has several of my favourite ever games, like Mario and WaveRace.

Had to go with the Dreamcast though, in the spirit of what these polls are about. That Year 1 DC line-up is immense not just in terms of having a few good games, but also (irrespective of quality) its breadth, covering many genres and tastes. Like Dogg Thang above me, I think it really shows up the first year of the three current consoles and 360/PS3 gen.

Super Mario 64, WaveRace, KI Gold, ISS64, Turok, Mario Kart 64, Blast Corps and Pilotwings.
