The 6th Form Comm Room, Gaming Paradise :o)

    8)

The most competitive, and most fun place to play computer games. Ever!

(My story of Gaming in my Sixth Form, and how things went down)

It kind of brings the Upper Sixth, and Lower Sixth together, we were at each others throats before. But now it's great. Sure, it's a select bunch of people. (About 12-15 maybe?) Who join in. But still, it's supurb!

Of course, it's none of that Xbox, Gamecube, PS2 melarky.

Only the best for our Comm Room. N64 and 4 pads, and Dreamcast and 4 pads. All played on the oldest 21" Phillips TV you have EVER seen. 8)

Oh man, this is class! At first, it was just the Dreamcast, and the only game that was played, was Virtua Tennis 1. That was class.

Then we moved to the 64, and of course, Goldeneye. No other game needed really! This was class, as I finally got to test my Elite Skills on some random players. I'm the daddy on this. And even all the computer boffs couldn't beat me, or me and my mate when it came to 2 vs 2.

Goldeneye is definately such a class game for something like the Comm Room. And it's great playing against new people, and then for you to complete own them 20-3. 8)

We played this for ages, mainly 4 player, all against all, complex of course. But then, this dude from Japan I think, from the lower sixth came on and partnered up with this other guy from the lower sixth. And completely razzed me and my friend! I was like...

Couldn't believe it! He must have some sort of Elite Jap skills, or something, I can't believe how great he was.

Needless to say, we had about 10 show downs. Me against him, sometimes panning all lunchtime. With a divide happening around the TV. People on my team, cheering me on, and the same for him. It's class!

Today, a new game was put on the Dreamcast, and the N64 was put away. Tony Hawks 2. Oh yes.

I had THPS3 on the PS2, and I used to love it. So going to the DC version was quite an experiance, as I never had number 2! Only 1 on the PSX.

The guy who owns the DC was on it with my mate from the upper sixth. Just playing Horse. Then I came on, and won by a letter.

From then on, I was the Tony Hawks King! Undefeated for my entire free lesson. It went around 4 people, with the winner staying on. Managed to keep going for an hour before retiring as the 'king'. Winning on Grafiti, to the owner of the GC, and this other dude, sometimes up to 30-0! hehe

I go away for a bit of Lunch time, I was forced to play some football... I come back, with like 20 minutes to go of Form. And this guy I was playing against earlier, had been practising with this other dude. (The Japanese fella) "Ah dude, I bet I could kick your arse now"

I was like Yeah Yeah. 8) So he put it on this level he had been practising on. Skaters Heaven I think it is? Well this is completely new to me! So I was grinding harmlessly etc all round the level. Went straight to the bottom. And realised I needed to get to the top where the massive half pipe was!

I was pwned! So my friend took the crown, couldn't believe it. Great fun, but shocked, then the Comm Room started cheering! And shouting at abuse at me for being a loser!

I went back on the game after next, just to show him show's the boss. (And also because I knew to stay at the half pipe ) So me and this dude played again, and It was close, before I pulled off a special, and beat him 120k points to 80k points. Both of us were just doing tricks on this half pipe, but, I rocked. So I stayed on for another 15 odd minutes, and beat everyone down that challanged me.

Oh man, I love talking about stuff like this, and stuff that happened. Just makes me smile thinking about it!

Sorry for the ramble, I just love talking about stuff that happened and that.

Then, my friend, who's really into Basketball, who managed to beat me, said at the end. "Oh, it's all on tomorrow!" Ha. Should be right laugh tomorrow, when it all carries on again.

Tony hawks 2, is a class game. And don't try to argue that it isn't. Not after my little story.

So... Why did I type all that out? Because I wanted to share with you what my Comm Room is like.

Discuss, and tell me what other games would be good for the comm room. Simple games aswell.

    Tony Hawks 2 (Dreamcast)
    Virtua Tennis (Dreamcast)
    Goldeneye (N64)

    Do we need anymore?

Cheers for reading, if you did.

    Your common room sounds genius.

Ours is a just a crappy room which has that 'sticky floor' feel to it. No chance of bringing a console in there... you'd get mobbed by all the rudes who want to have a go, and three minutes in the console would probably get half-inched. Bah.

We have to make do with a bit of Advance Wars in a quiet corner.

I have the best work environment ever for gaming. I am in charge of a 100 seat screening room with dolby SRD souns and an 80 foot screen.

PGR2 looks just a bit special with real size cars.

          Our common room, (Lower sixth).

One of the ****test TVs youve ever seen, Playstation 1, Micro Machines, 8 controllers.

          It is madness

We cant really play anything less then 8 player games because otherwise people are kept waiting, so any other 8 player PS games you can think of (Other then Bomberman - also fun )

And can I suggest you get WWF No Mercy for the N64, very fun in multiplayer even if you dont like wrestling

Yeah most of the people think its really 'uncool or sad' or something, but theres about 10 - 15 of us who like playing.

You should bring in a console anyway, bound to generate some interest

I wish our Common Room was like that, although it is pretty sweet. Its a huge room in a brand new building that was built last october. The other day we stole a 15 foot tall christmas tree from a field and put it in the corner. Then we decorated it with **** we got from the shops etc. The only games we play in there are card games. Mainly illegal gambling on Poker and Brag. Basicall there is always at least 10 packs of cards in there at a time. I steal random cards out of each pack and cheat with them when I play. "Oh look, I got another 5 aces!" MWAHAHA! We dont have a TV either, but we do have a stereo and a 30GB mp3 player. We also do the good old game of who can climb up the roof the quickest. Basically you start at the low end of the roof supports (about 8 foot off the ground) and finish at the high end, hanging 15 feet above the floor. We also have 6 computers in the room next door for the sixth formers only. We have broadband, but most sites are blocked. Its a good job I have the skills to get around their puny childlocks! Wow! I have written a hell of a lot of random **** about my common room. Anyway, gotta go...

                Later.

We don't really have a common room, we just have a 'student social area'. It's ****, full of wooden tables for eating and lots of couches and ****. But it's only big enough for about 1/3 of the college, and there's nowhere else to go. So at lunchtime you can't even walk through it, it's so packed. Like, 1000 people packed. However, we are allowed to use rooms, and about half the rooms at my college have projectors in them (which we can also use), so one day (one day) we may start gaming. Maybe...

                    Common room?
                    Sixth form?
                    Indigo?

God, that joke never gets old.

Damn all you posh people who had sixth forms and free periods. Not like us hard-working ex-Dudley College people. [sniff]

                      Our common room is terrible

It got trashed over the summer so they gave all new chairs that are really uncomfortable and there aren't enough for everyone

The only things in there are a football table (which is old and falling apart)and a stereo (quite new, but it has what could possibly be the worst speakers in the world - the quality is terrible)

We decided agianst a TV, last year they had one for a while and used it purely for watching neighbours and playing fifa

I'll have to bring my GBA in play some of my friends but that's the best I'll get

That reminds me.... we have a table football game too. Its one of those ones that charities give you that are proper ones. You have to pay fifty pence to play one game. At first you got 10 balls out then after about a month, it went down to nine, then eight , then seven... then we thought it was a rip off and I discovered that if you get one of the chairs and stick the leg in the hole where the balls come out, you can get all the balls without playing. After a week a ridge appeared inside the machine just where the balls wait for you to take them up to the "board". Only one ball could fit in this ridge at first but soon it became a trench and we lost 3 balls in it toally. Using a biro, we tried to hook the balls out of the hole and find a way to stop them getting in it. Then we lost the biro in there. So we eventually got the three balls out of the notorious trench but no sign of the biro. So we blocked up the trench what balls of paper. That was when it sort of stopped working. We swiftly moved it to the side of the room and no use it as a poker table. I can't wait til the charity comes to empty it!

Ah yes! The 6th form. Brings back memories. We weren't allowed a TV in ours so no gaming apart from on one occassion when someone bought in a PS1. So we nicked a Tv from the library and ended up having a Colin McRae Rally 2 tournament. 16 of us in a knock out tournament, I of course won despite having never played it before, beating two people that owned the game in the process and having hated the original. Maybe I'm just great Then the 6th form tutor came in and confiscated the PS1 so that was the end of that. Anyway we used to play rugby in our common room - much more fun than videogames

In terms of games to play Mario Kart 64 is a must on the N64 and Chu Chu Rocket is a must on the DC (as are all the Midway sports games rather surprisingly but only if you plan to play 4 player mind)

                          Enjoy

It is strange how people can be brought together by videogames. Although the upper/lower divide was never crossed (until darts arrived, that is), there were a surprising number of people involved with our common room gaming. I can't remember how it started, but I think it was someone bringing in a playstation with bloody roar (where everyone played as byakaru except me). Soon, someone left their SNES in vi form so all we did all day was play old school street fighter. Wasn't long before turbo came along but that game amassed serious crowdage.

The SNES was eventually banned and taken away due to a select few passionate individuals who didn't enjoy losing and vioced their opinions on it rather loudly. So we moved on the the N64. Goldeneye was the staple diet here. all day, every day. one person would leave, another would step up. It only ever stopped for neighbours. I'd play a bit - I was alright, but nothing that could blow anyone else out of the water. Typical impatience (and lack of skill from most) meant that sudden death pistols in stack was the game of choice - quite a few people couldn't keept the crosshair on a target long enough to kill them with normal rules and this meant quicker turnarounds as well. Perfect Dark was experimentally tested but inevitably couldn't steal its predecessor's limelight. Only wrestling came close.

Occasionally I stole the spotlight with my import dc, showing japan's finest 'wares. Power stone, street fighter alpha, a bit of third strike (most predictably preferred alpha's faster and more forgiving pace), chu chu rocket (kevin arnage, trust), doa2, soul calibur, even some sophisticated f355 challenge races when the crowd died down. The pinnacle must have been knicking a school projector for some dc'age - the teachers weren't too impressed to find our "presentation" was in fact marvel vs capcom 2. Crazy taxi never looked better though.

The only real showdown I had was at street fighter alpha 3. Me and this other chap were undisputed dons but had never fought each other. I was at a disadvantage, having to play on 'away' hardware, being a dc man and never having touched the psx version before. It was close but i was just beaten. It was a tense fight though, definately had our corners of the ring, the crowds remained even though the next period began to see the result. Quite embarrasing really.

                            ahh, the memories....

Too much Goldeneye tinkle-kissing in there it sounds like.

Perfect Dark is pure GE evolution.

                              Perfect Dark is forever
