Hackers take down PSN and Sony Exec's flight diverted due to bomb threat

PSN has been down for about eight hours so far due to a DDoS attack. And is due to be down for maintenance all tomorrow evening. Sony really don't like gamers being able to play online on a Bank Holiday Monday, is the second or third time they've done it this year.

Surely its the """ hackers""" who don't want people online on bank holiday Monday not Sony?

The ddos thing annoys me because NowTv stops working. Netflix still works though. Wonder why that is?

They also sent a bomb threat to the airline carrying Sonys online entertainment president john smedley.

Unless Sony recently started making anthrax and not entertainment devices, I'm interested in their reasoning behind such an act, whatever it was, it's completely unnecessary for someone who manages that sort of business.

This literally gives me an awful feeling in my stomach. Geek culture online is getting ridiculous. It's only going to be a matter of time before some lunatic kills someone from within the games industry.

I waiting for the anti-hactivist hactivist movement, who hack PSN to improve the service and protect it from this sort of thing.

No, the maintenance was already planned and published about days ago.

So does this mean we all have to change all our passwords and stuff?

Probably not, as allegedly it's a DDOS attack.

Although Sony may well recommend it once it's back online.

Well see how funny and cleaver they think they are when several armed & masked men drag them from their beds during the night and take them to a cell. Silly silly children.

Completely agree with this. I mean, we should known something wasn't quite right when seemingly quiet introverts back in the day could get so riled up over whether the Atari ST is better than the Amiga but widening out the pool of crazies and throwing the internet into the mix has created a monster.

I guess the only plus is that it should be acknowledged that the monster is very small compared with those who just like and enjoy stuff without the need for venom or threats.
