    Touhou (PS4, Vita, PC)

Announced by Zun, father of the Touhou Project, before the Sony TGS conference. No other data available, but since Zun is involved, it will most probably be a classic vertical danmaku.

See, this is why gaming is awesome. I've been playing video games for almost 40 years and yet the above announcement reads like complete nonsense! I don't understand any of what you just said!

But I'm off to search and find out right now

The bloke makes shmups and then the rest of Japan make porn using the characters from the Touhou series.

Some more details of the upcoming games at Siliconera. Games will appear on PS4, Vita, and an unknown platform.

I thought the guy had something against western releases too. I've never looked into this personally, but I'd heard his sites use IP filtering to not allow purchases outside of Japan, or something.

              That's hardly an uncommon practise.

Playism announced that the 14th installment of Touhou, Double Dealing Character will receive the first official English translation of the series. There's no date yet, or if the game will only be distributed through Playism's own store.

Might be wrong, but what I've always been told about Tohou is that it's a series of very good, indie "bullet hell" vertical scrolling shooters with an anime theme, almost entirely made by a single guy - who opposes, and actively tries to prevent anyone not Japanese from playing them.

Is that true or is it just a myth?

EDIT: Weirdly I already posted this ages ago. This thread must have been before the changes to the forum's "new posts" function.

Main Touhou games (the vertical bullet hells) are done by one man, nicknamed ZUN. I don't know about his (previous) leaning toward localisation, but I recall him being very cautios about releasing rights or even "officially" acknowledging big-budget Touhou-related things, like anime. There have been several fan-made Touhou anime episodes (or better, OAVs), but ZUN always took distance from them.

I don't believe ZUN is anti Westerner at all, considering he has attended American conventions in the past. You might be thinking about his ruling against Touhou porn, as that is the only real rule of his.

However, Touhou used to be the most popular series represented at Comiket some years ago so this flies in the face of his rulings.

Not to mention that Touhou has its convention, the Hakurei Shrine Grand Festival (Hakurei Jinja Reitaisai, or simply Reitaisai for short).

Double Dealing Character will be available through the English version of Playism on May 7th. The same day a spin-off platformer, Takkoman, will be released as well.
