Utterly ridiculous to suggest it was better than any PES game of the time.
I have to agree with this, the lack of control and action was frustrating. At a time when PES was going from strength to strength, jumping from ps1 to ps2. I always felt vs2 was a pure arcade game designed to pumps money outta you. It got exposed at home IMHO. Unless you fans can convince me of some undiscovered levels of depth I failed to grasp?

I wouldn't compare them to the sim games myself. But I just loved the look, fun and feel of playing them and the pure arcadeyness of it.

Yeah, there are those among us for whom we prefer our football and ice hockey games to be a slightly more involved version of Pinball.

I guess Pro Evo is Virtua Fighter and Virtua Striker 2 is Smash Bros.

I have to agree with this. This thread sent me on a huge nostalgia YouTube dreamcast gameplay video smash, and watching some Virtua Striker gameplay reminded me what an absolute state of a game it was to play. Always felt like you could only run on rails, ball never felt under your control, and the animation was shocking even back then.

I distinctly remember the official DC magazine, and DC-UK blindly arguing we didn't need FIFA or PES, as we had VS.... Christ....

There are a couple of half decent arcade football games on DC. SWWS Euro Edition is really fun. Bit pinball like, very accessible too.

Virtua Striker 2 has had some of the most intense games of footy going on between me and my mates, besides Winning Eleven 8.

              FIFA is just bumballs.

Fifa was bumballs back then, no doubt. Virtua Striker 2 is still terrible no matter how many of you bang on about it. It fails fundamentally as a videogame. You have so little direct control. I would go as far as to say it's one of the worst games I have ever played.

Precisely! Virtua Striker 2 v2000.1 is superior in every way.
Well done son, your place in the Virtua Striker 2 v2000.1 appreciation society is confirmed

Parkinho, I do like your profile pic as it reminds me of hunting down games in dreamcast bins after its demise, but you are mad if you think it's a good game. Yeh it looked incredible at the time but it was a cluster**** of chance playing - no skill just mad luck.

                      I cannot believe it is just me, Eddie and Asura who love this game! Two things to consider for the naysayers;
                      1. Where else can you find Carlos Valderrama's perm so perfectly recreated?
                      2. Where else can you hear the crowd belt out a passionate rendition of the iconic football chant 'potato, potato, potato'?

                      I rest my case.

I would say that would be the Saturn - when SOJ was at their height of console development .

Virtual Striker was a arcade game and it played as such and I loved it - At the time it was handdown not only one of the best looking games but also the best looking Football game ever made . I wouldn't even begin to class it as the best footy game around at the time though . For me you could forget Pro Evo or Fifa and the like the best footy game made for the PS2/DC gen would be This Is Football 2002/3

Haven't logged in here for ages but just wanted to state that Virtual Striker is indeed an abomination of a football game. Bloody awful.

I was late to the DC party, If it wasn't for a friend who showed me PSOv2 I would never have taken the plunge. I`m glad I did.
I loooooved PSO. I sunk 100s of hours into it.
