AMD came out swinging with the Zen 4 CPUs: https://www.windowscentral.com/hardw...000-processors
That predicted price hike didn't happen (in fact the 7950X is priced lower than the MSRP of 5950X), at least in the US prices so will have to see how the UK prices turn out. It will be cheaper to get a Ryzen 3 CPU as these have had some decent discounts of late, but in terms of performance increase over Zen 3, that premium might be worth it.
Maybe the price diff is down to moving to LGA, because that means the mobos have higher costs on the sockets - there are going to be four tiers on that, with the X670 and X670E available at launch and the B650/B650E coming the month after. Boards support PCIe5 and will only be available with DDR5 support.
Launch is on 27th September.
7600X $299 6C12T max turbo SC 5.3GHz
7700X $399 8C16T max turbo SC 5.4GHz
7900X $549 12C24T max turbo SC 5.6GHz
7950X $699 16C32T max turbo SC 5.7GHz
AMD claimed that the 7600X outperforms the i9 12900K in both single and multithread workloads and with lower power draw - so it's going to be good news for PC gamers; if Intel wants to remain competitive, it's not going to be able to launch Gen 13 with inflated prices unless their chips blow these out of the water.
Overall it was a pretty good showing from AMD with a final sneak peek at the RDNA3 GPUs which will be launching later in the year.

Think I'll be waiting for a price reduction on the 5800X3D, carry my B450 platform as far as I can.
That said, by the time my 5600X is showing its age I doubt that will be a worthwhile upgrade.Last edited by speedlolita; 30-08-2022, 10:15.

I might try and grab a 7950X on the 27th. AMD have claimed they've been ramping up production, but I can't remember the last launch where stuff wasn't out of stock in less than 10 minutes. Maybe the RX 6500 XT that no one wanted.
It might be worth holding off for the 3D cache CPUs next year, so it's probably not a bad idea to wait.
