Depending on what games you have/plan to buy, a Wii U Pro Controller would be a good addition probably, especially if you want to play multiplayer.

The battery for the pad is dire! I can't swap it out as I need a smaller screwdriver, but hope that the extended battery is better.

It's a matter of personal preference. I mean, I know how these things work and there are many definitions of what constitutes as "good" when it comes to visuals, but playing some of these WiiU games today reminds me of the first time I booted up my Dreamcast and played stuff like Tokyo Highway Battle - high-res, silky framerate, less focus on eye-candy and more on responsiveness (until stuff like Soul Calibur came along and had both).

I mean I'm not one of these people who dislike PS360 gaming; far from it - but I prefer when console games stick within their means, and don't strain against them. For instance, I loved Mass Effect 3, but by the end of the game, I grew very tired of its variable performance. I just want my games to run at their best, all the time, irrespective of what's happening onscreen.

Then again, I'm the kind of person on PC who'll always sacrifice visuals to get a consistent 60fps, decent resolution and filtering to prevent flicker.

I sometimes miss the days when I played things like Soul Reaver on the Dreamcast, which were previous-gen but running on much more powerful hardware. I like how Nintendoland seems to have a similar aesthetic.

So technically, no, it's far worse than something like Watch Dogs running on PS4 - but I personally would prefer to see more games that look like this.

Thanks for replying. Not bothered about multiplayer, but the games I have in mind for the Wii U are:

          Mario 3D world
          Pikmin 3
          Mario Kart 8
New Super Mario Bros / Luigi Bros U
          Nintendo Land
          Bayonetta 2
          Mario Maker

The controller does look a good bet - is the pad the only controller that comes with it?

I completed mass effect 3 & black flag on wiiu and didn't notice any tearing or frame rate drops in either title if it helps, both technically very competent, mass effect 3 i thought looked very smooth and jaggie free.

The PS3 version of ME3 on the other hand has some segments with really dire framerate.

Yes, the pad is the only controller that comes in the box. I'd imagine the Pro Controller would be a good choice for especially Bayonetta and it's also nice because it has great battery life (unlike the pad) and it's lighter and more traditional in form than the pad. It's by no means a mandatory purchase but I can still recommend it.

Also, if you have Wii remotes lying around, many games (like Mario Kart, Smash Bros., Nintendo Land) support them too, which is nice.

hahahahah! Thanks a lot! Yes, a little screwdriver was in the box, I should have checked that first....

The Wii U Pro controller is one of the best pads there is. A must for Bayonetta 2.

                        I have 10 games now.

                        Smash
                        NSMBU
                        Hyrule Warriors
                        MK8
                        DKCTF
                        Zelda WW HD
                        Nintendo Land
                        Sonic Racing
                        Zombi U
                        SM3D World

All in a lot of quality. Except Sonic, I can't stand it.

Sonic Adv had massive clippings issues and only run at 30 fps and SEGA Rally II had big rame rate issues . People seem to gloss over the previous gens far too much :P

Yup. DC had some nasty frame rates early on. I didn't wanna say though..

                            Naomi etc improved it hugely.

If you get the pro pack you get the pro controller, gamepad stand and wii sensor bar included too. All in your probably better getting that pack seeing as there are plenty of pro packs with a game going.

Speaking of the gamepad, has anyone noticed the following. Switch the wiiU on with the gamepad, console boots up, switch the selection to tv, analogue stick fails to move on tv, switch back to gamepad and analogue stick works fine for selecting icons etc. Noticed this last week and it's bugging me.

PS2 games had issues RR V 2 payer mode was a joke as was the nasty jaggies . All the more credit for turn 10 for nailing 60 fps and 1080p from day one with Forza V
