PTE82: Playstation Vita - Three Years On...

Yes. Maybe the time has flown, maybe you feel like it's an already discontinued system. Either way, next week the Playstation Vita hits its third birthday and begins its fourth year on the market, the year that would typically be when a format is expected to hit its high note before a replacement begins a rumour mill production line.

At this point the handheld seems to have nurtured a very loyal but small fanbase who enjoy the steady trickle of Japanese releases that come out whilst it's pretty safe to say that the majority of the western market has almost entirely forgotten the system is still for sale as the recent muted PSVita TV launch shows.

Three years in, what are your thoughts on Sony's little handheld that could... if only they'd let it?

Sony should've called it a day in the handheld gaming space after PSP - I've said it before and I stand by that.

Technically brilliant hardware but games just aren't there (handheld owners clearly don't want replicated home console experiences). Major devs clearly don't want to know anymore and I honestly don't see how Vita's much-heralded indie offerings are any better than the indie games on the 3DS via eShop. That's not even mentioning the awful proprietary memory cards that are way overpriced.

Barring a significant price-drop, I can't say I'd ever be interested in owning one. Here's hoping the penny drops for Sony this time out and that they exit the handheld scene for good.

Even Tearaway had been ported to ps4 now, that was the game that got me to buy one, and should of been advertised sooooo much more than it was. If anything else, at least i got to play that on it, worth it alone.

Voted own it and love it because I do but the whole thing has been a fiasco, the system is now dead and was never given a chance by Sony themselves and it will never get close to any potential it might have had. Almost feels like some tax scam for Sony. They weren't interested in getting games out and selling systems.

          Own one, love it!

My favourite handheld if only because it has an Uncharted game on it. Of course there are loads of great games on it other than U:GA but having another Drake adventure is all I needed.

It meets my needs perfectly, and that's without bothering with Indy games, but obviously I'm in the minority.

Own one...love it...second best handheld ever IMO after the original gameboy!

Own a drawer full of games for it. Couldn't care less about the amount of consoles sold as long as the quirky little Japanese games sell enough copies to keep on getting translated!

it's great but only really turn it on occasionally, every time it's on I have to redo the clock so that shows you

So voted own one but indifferent

Don't like it. Ugly scruffy visuals with most games. Should have gone with a 480p screen because 4 inches of original Xbox games wouldn't have looked incredible.
Too many ropey games early on like Ridge and Wipeout.

Does still have some good games of course though and Killzone did show what it could do.

Sold mine due to lack of interest. There's been some titles released for me to consider getting another in the future, but only when the games are ?15 or less.

It did rekindle my love of the PSP though. Which is basically a slightly less impressive Vita with a better interface and games.

I guess I'm the only one idiot enough to own two.
3DS trumps it but all the games from PS+ and cross-buy have given it a massive library I've got interest in. Got burnt on Terreria and TnK but otherwise I've got no regrets.

Put it this way, I'm still tempted to re-buy a PSP, but I doubt I'd go so far as a Vita. The only thing I feel I've missed out on is the Danganronpa craze. There's doubtless other stuff which is unique on the machine and good, but even as a core gamer who posts in places like here, I can't remember what that stuff is.

I like my PS Vita especially for Remote play but I took it on holiday recently and for me it did not stand the test and I was craving my 3DS. Vita has some good games but for me (don't know if it's the games I have on it problem) but only felt like playing for 30mins-1hour. Feel the 3DS games give longer play opportunity for me anyway.

Still looking forward to playing a bit of Resogun, Super Time force on it when they come but as others have said most games come to PS4 too or were released their first.

Having had one a lot of times as well as a lot of 3ds I'm pretty confident that I just simply don't like handheld gaming, must be getting old looking at the tiny screens

Memory card prices have been a major factor in not purchasing a Vita to add to the collection; it's like an additional tax on any game purchase.

Now that the Playsation TV is available I am a little bit more interested in taking a look at Vita games because I know I'd not really get use out of a handheld, but that's mostly due to the catalogue that's been built up due to PS+, although I'm not sure how many of them are compatible. If PSTV dips to ?50 I'll take a closer look.
