PTE83: Amiibo or AmiiNO

So, it's really starting to look like the Amiibo range will see lesser characters recieve more limited runs than Infinity or Skylanders manufacture for as Nintendo see's Villager, Marth and Wii Fit Trainer go for crazy online prices. Minimising runs for such characters makes sense as they were never likely to sell in large numbers, their current demand fuelled mostly by Xmas timed scarcity fears and potential profiteering.

However, more are due and potentially more limited characters which can prove awkward for collectors who genuinely want the entire range. Now they're actually out to buy and to use where do you find yourself on the Amiibo fence?

Bought four. Realised that the functionality was limited (my own fault as I should have been aware of this pre-purchase) so sold them this morning. Won't buy anymore.

I'm a bit of Nintendo collector, so can't help myself picking a few up. I'm not really fussed about the functionality, but more as a means to decorate my Games room.

I just ordered Mario, easily one of the best ones. If I stumbled across the really hard to get ones I think I'd still pass on two of them. Marth isn't a character I care for and comes across poorly made whilst the Trainer is outright waste and even worse in person with her plastic semi-welly boot. Villager would maybe be my weak spot but only in the vague hope of compatibility with a future AC game. My current wabts lie more with Fox and Yoshi along with some Wave 2 figures. I've gone and preordered the ones I want for Wave 3 and 4 as the store hunting is annoying and theres too much price enhancing.

After I finished with Infinity I sold a load off and kept the main characters I liked so these seem a natural fit at home bar the dodgy props. There are now just 8 unannounced Smash Bros fighters for Amiibo which I assume will be Wave 5. Hoping for Olimar in that. It's when they deviate from Smash Bros that the series should start to get really interesting

Megaman and Mario id quite like, i have a villager on the way. The Link ones are a bit of a disappointment if only because they both have massive slabs of clear/yellow plastic to make them more robust. I cant help but feel they have tried to be to clever with the posses as Skylanders and Disney infinity don't have these issues.

I like the idea. Must admit I was disappointed when the quality didn't appear to match earlier images. But was possibly more disappointed by the implementation within games. Using them as a key for unlocks in games, effectively paid DCL (just paid for through a figure), is stinky. What I've heard of their function in Smash Bros Wii U sounds uninteresting and word of any 3DS functionality seems to have dropped off the face of the planet.

I imagine I may pick one or two up at some point. Would have liked the Villager but I haven't seen it in a shop anywhere and wouldn't take a chance ordering online due to the quality problems.

Sums it up for me, really. Disappointed they don't look like the original figures (yeah blah blah manufacturing blah, still not good enough, I expect better from Nintendo) and I don't understand the point, whereas I totally get the idea of Disney Infinity and if I was still a kid I'd be all over it.

What I'm really hoping is that they start doing game specific ones. A Captain Toad Amiibo should have been lined up already and it'd be cool to get ones like an Arwing. They should be like the trophies you collect in Smash Bros... but better posed.

Cheap plastic ****e they don't even look to be made with any quality like a figure, the one I saw looked like it should have come from a kinder egg but each to their own.

they may be late to dlc but it's probably the most exploitative I have seen, you want an exclusive hat ?11 figure please
