          I finally finished Deus Ex.
I started it before EDF 2025 came out so there was a year's hiatus whilst I played that!

Only criticisms are that it's possibly a bit long with a second visit to Hong Kong (or maybe that year-long break added to it seeming long) and the only way to power your batteries is by eating energy bars, but the first battery auto-recharges - why can't the others do that?

However, It's got some brilliant locations and set-pieces. I'd genuinely stop what I was doing once I'd knocked all the bad guys out and have a mooch around because the locations were so detailed.
Yeah, I really enjoyed this and I'm looking forward to seeing how the new game turns out.

I didn't think I'd killed anyone, but the games says otherwise. The guy must've deserved it.

              Got bored/abandoned-

              -Witcher 3
              -LBP3

              Completed-

              -Arkham Knight
              -Bloodbourne
-The Last of Us remaster (just completed)

I finally bought TLOU after Edge recently ranked it as the third greatest game of all time. I thought OK Ive got see what all the fuss is about.

Ive gotta say it was a good game and I'm glad i played through it, but damn, it is overrated. No way is it in the top 10 games of all time. Gorgeous looking well acted cut scenes do not make a game great.

It seems to be a game trying its very best to be a movie. To some gamers this might be what they think games should evolve into to get the approval of non gamers who dismiss games as kid fare, but to me it was story heavy, linear and the gameplay was pretty limited to stealth and shoot stuff.

There were some scary moments, and some bits that almost made me tear up. I think you can say its a great piece of art, or storytelling. But a truly great game? Im not so sure about that.

My thoughts exactly although i only played a few hours of the game at a friends but i did watch him play right through it.

But no other developer outside of Naughty Dog have made a game with movie quality acting. During the cutscenes, of which there were few, it felt like something you watch during primetime on TV.

Mart i agree but i think that was part of the problem. I actually really enjoyed watching my mate play through it way more than actually playing it. Not saying it's a bad game i just like my games to be games first and foremost with the ability to make the player feel that it isn't linear even if it is with no hand holding and with mabee a few cutscenes throughout but no more.

It's why i never took to the Uncharted series. It felt so on rails and was trying to much to be as much a movie as a really linear feeling videogame.

I appreciate that don't but games don't always have to be the same experiences.

True but i meant to say i do think a game has to be judged as a game first and foremost

That's too limited a view. You can't apply that at all to things like Broken Sword, Beneath a Steel Sky etc. They are story based.

The Last of Us has a story that is relatively thin compared to the amount of game. The cut scenes are wonderful and the atmosphere is incredible but you can't really discount the gameplay in that one. For me, the gameplay and its lack of integration into the story was a real problem. I felt Uncharted generally did that better.

Sometimes games are unplayable without a back story...

Yeah those games are all story based but i think a game like T.L.O.U should be judged as a game first and foremost.
