HD 'Remasters' that aren't actually remasters

So, I bought Doom 3 BFG (this is the second or third of these so called 'remasters' I've bought) and it looks worse than the original. And I mean CLEARLY worse.

I'm not saying this in a 'oh there's a few dodge textures' I mean across the board; no options to tweak, no sound options, terrible aliasing, it's just an inferior product in every way compared to the first release which I find disgusting.

With the upcoming Resi rebirth rerelease coming out can you think of any other 'remasters' that are clearly taking the piss using this term?

I recently rebrought Sleeping Dogs, the 'Definitive Edition' and tbh honest I can't really tell that much of a difference between last gens one and the latest offering, other than some car textures and bits and bobs... I haven't compared them side by side, by I'd like to nominate that as a lazy repackage...

Dunno, the ps3 version looks alot nicer than the 480p original xbox version; perhaps your talking about the pc game?

It's double the framerate, higher resolution and utilising textures from the PC version of the game. So I'm not sure how it can be described as an inferior product in every regard.

The pc version of Doom 3 BFG. The description says 'DOOM 3 remastered'. It's clearly not.

          I'll find some pics.

Edit: and I'm not talking mods etc, just base game vs base remastered game. It's worse.

Silent Hill HD Collection has probably got to be one of the kings of this

Are you sure it looks worse, the new version? I don't mean to be dismissive, but are you certain it's not rose-tints? Doom 3 was one of the first games to really push normal mapping as a major visual feature, and it gave everything a very plastic-y appearance that looked bold and different at the time but looks pretty awful now.

Remember playing that on Ultra on my friend's Dad's 9800 Pro way back. Insane.

                        Same scene.

Have to add it moves like **** also. Genuinely looks terrible moving like it's being ran through some god awful flciker filter.

It looks like that because it has quite a motion blur system in the BFG edition because it uses Tech 5 rather than the old one and that is a screenshot of something moving...

I've only played Doom 3 on Xbox and 360 and the 360 version looked much better.

Funnily enough with doom 3 compared to the really early versions they showed they had toned down the graphics an physics
