Oh yeah, wasn't implying that it will be a different style of game, it just won't be called Metal Gear Solid. After 5 years of development and a new studio, they need to bleed that engine and gameplay style dry to recoup their costs.

I'm trying to say that Kojima leaving doesn't necessarily mean Castlevania and Silent Hill will suddenly "stop" or become ****. Hell, sometimes the departure of a big persona allows other people at a company to shine and do bold, different things.
Silent Hill should've ended years ago anyway. It's daft that it's still going.
Not saying there is no one at Konami with talent but yet to see any games from them bar PES2015 where someone else bar Kojima has done anything of note. Not sure who did the first Castlevania Lord of Shadows reboot PS3.
Also Konami Wiki not so many games even 2012, Konami did not seem to out out so much.

Apart from the PT demo and a couple of heavily scripted 'gameplay' videos, we've seen naff all of Silent Hills so far. I'm just hoping it's much further along than we think, so Kojima's departure won't have too much of a detrimental effect.

Well I'd want them to expand it beyond one L-shaped corridor and add a bit of dialogue or something, but yeah. It excited me because it actually felt different and 'next gen' though. Also because it felt like something that would work well in VR, software for which will at least initially be much more 'experiential' than most games I think.
I don't think Silent Hills will play anything like PT though.

I'm not adverse to sequels as a concept; I think some games "sequelise" very well. The problem is that to me, Silent Hill isn't a franchise, it's a location which I've visited in 2 games (1&2) and I'm done. If the new games have different settings, to me that's even worse as they're not Silent Hill.
I'd love to see some of the inventiveness of something like Shadow of Memories, even if that game wasn't amazing.

But increasingly they've become an awful slog over the years as Kojima has been allowed to slip further and further into the delusion that he is a truly great film director and storyteller. This, I take it, is his main input. As well as all the meta-gags, tiring back-lore, 4th-wall-breaking nods, upskirt action vulgarity, and such. This I find frustrating. The things that make the games enjoyable, for me, are the fragments of gameplay in-between all that ****e. I'm looking forward to MGS5 of course but I'm equally if not more interested to see what happens to that gameworld/engine afterwards.

Indeed, Dogg! There were 8 and 1/2 hours of cutscenes in MGS4. I watched 'em all. Some dude has collated them here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AhGj4oisfU.
8 and 1/2 hours is equivalent to what, 4 movies worth? 4 bad movies. That doesn't even include all the CODEC interruptions in-game to inform you of of the history of warfare, geo-politics, manga and Godzilla films, ...often by taking you out into more film footage and cut-scenes.
