Oh yeah, wasn't implying that it will be a different style of game, it just won't be called Metal Gear Solid. After 5 years of development and a new studio, they need to bleed that engine and gameplay style dry to recoup their costs.

I'm trying to say that Kojima leaving doesn't necessarily mean Castlevania and Silent Hill will suddenly "stop" or become ****. Hell, sometimes the departure of a big persona allows other people at a company to shine and do bold, different things.

Silent Hill should've ended years ago anyway. It's daft that it's still going.
I was saying opposite of what you said I think Silent Hill was and has been bog standard for years since SH3 really apparently the Room is o.k, until Kojima did P.T Demo. I think Kojima leaving will affect everything. Also look what happened to MGS: Rising when Konami in house tried to make it without Kojima.

Not saying there is no one at Konami with talent but yet to see any games from them bar PES2015 where someone else bar Kojima has done anything of note. Not sure who did the first Castlevania Lord of Shadows reboot PS3.

Also Konami Wiki not so many games even 2012, Konami did not seem to out out so much.

Up until recently i would have agreed 100% to this. All the recent SH entries have been an absolute embarassment, and thats coming from someone who adores SH1-3. However, having seen that PT demo Kojima worked on, it's potentially completely re-invigorating the series to something current and relevant. Hearing this Kojima news does make me worry that the huge potential Silent Hills showed in that demo could be reduced by the time it's released...if it ever is.

Apart from the PT demo and a couple of heavily scripted 'gameplay' videos, we've seen naff all of Silent Hills so far. I'm just hoping it's much further along than we think, so Kojima's departure won't have too much of a detrimental effect.

The Silent Hills demo was certainly intriguing and scary but not what I would want from a game.

I would want that from a game! With VR. That would be amazing.

I would actually crap my pants playing the PT demo in VR.

It's just a lot of looking and clicking. It would work well as part of a game but not the sole experience for me.

I'd like to see it integrated as puzzle sections perhaps.

Well I'd want them to expand it beyond one L-shaped corridor and add a bit of dialogue or something, but yeah. It excited me because it actually felt different and 'next gen' though. Also because it felt like something that would work well in VR, software for which will at least initially be much more 'experiential' than most games I think.

I don't think Silent Hills will play anything like PT though.

PT was cool. I don't think it represents the game rather then the setting and theme. I too hope it's too far along in order to not go wrong...

Surely this the end for Konami though all their top talent gone and Kojima is single handedly keeping that company afloat. Sad times...

I guess I see what you mean, but I would just prefer a new horror franchise.

I'm not adverse to sequels as a concept; I think some games "sequelise" very well. The problem is that to me, Silent Hill isn't a franchise, it's a location which I've visited in 2 games (1&2) and I'm done. If the new games have different settings, to me that's even worse as they're not Silent Hill.

I'd love to see some of the inventiveness of something like Shadow of Memories, even if that game wasn't amazing.

Don't agree with this. I've enjoyed all of the Solid games and the PS1 game is probably still my favourite of all time. But increasingly they've become an awful slog over the years as Kojima has been allowed to slip further and further into the delusion that he is a truly great film director and storyteller. This, I take it, is his main input. As well as all the meta-gags, tiring back-lore, 4th-wall-breaking nods, upskirt action vulgarity, and such. This I find frustrating. The things that make the games enjoyable, for me, are the fragments of gameplay in-between all that ****e. I'm looking forward to MGS5 of course but I'm equally if not more interested to see what happens to that gameworld/engine afterwards.

I could not agree more. MGS4 was enjoyable but probably one of the worst paced games of all time.

I felt it was barely a game. Lovely cut scenes though.

Indeed, Dogg! There were 8 and 1/2 hours of cutscenes in MGS4. I watched 'em all. Some dude has collated them here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AhGj4oisfU.

8 and 1/2 hours is equivalent to what, 4 movies worth? 4 bad movies. That doesn't even include all the CODEC interruptions in-game to inform you of of the history of warfare, geo-politics, manga and Godzilla films, ...often by taking you out into more film footage and cut-scenes.
