Mario Kart 8 is quite a good case for a true F-Zero sequel, that level of inventive playing with the track design is exactly how they could mix things up for an F-Zero. Nintendo always seem to say they don't see a worthwhile way of advancing it beyond GX but the series has never been particularly reinventive with each entry, it's mostly about making them faster and more spectacular whilst going them damned well.

Did GX flop sales wise? I have it in my head it never sold in big numbers but then it's such a go-to for that type fo racing game I assume it's been played by plenty of people.

It's one of the reasons the MKart series has picked up for me, the refocusing on tracks and their design. It feels like for ages the move was towards focusing on the Karts and how multiplayer impacts races with players counts etc and that informed the designs. It feels like once again they've gone back to prioritising simply making courses fun so that you don't get bored seeing them over and over again.

Has anyone ever tracked down and played Mario Kart Arcade GP DX? Never seen that one in the wild but I've played GP1 and 2, the machines are always set to profiteer and the design isn't anywhere near main series standard but they're still kind of fun, very bright and it carries the Mario series visual style well even if the gameplay isn't anywhere near as good as the main games. Certainly a curio, but an interesting one.
