Obscure DS imports retrospective: Part 6 (THE Shouboutai THE 消防隊)

The simple DS series of games are all low budget style games but that doesn't mean they are all shovelware ironically finding new copies of certain simple titles nowdays you'll be paying way more than they ever cost at release, due to their cheaper nature you can find some rather unusual topics for games like this one for example where you play as a fireman.

Introducing simple DS series volume No'39 THE shouboutai

You are in charge of a fire station with just a crew of 3 members each of them having different stats like better stamina or a faster ability at putting out flames with the hose but as you play as each of them you can level them up along with the fire station increasing as well. The missions are rather simple you are either outside on the Japanese streets putting out fires or you are running around inside buildings trying to track down all sources of the flames, as you go into later levels the buildings get bigger and more complex and the flames start to get tricky like traps where you'll find nothing round you but then flames burst out of the floor or flames that have the ability to move in waves. You have several tools at your disposal there is the regular hose and then theres the wide spray hose that acts a bit like a smart bomb and wipes a lot of fire out in one go but depending on the member you will have a certain amount of shots although more can be found in the buildings you search, there is also an axe that you use in later levels to break down barriers to get at the flames where areas are sealed off. Controls are a bit clunky at first as you move with the dpad and aim with the stylus, double tapping on the dpad in any direction either enables you to sprint or strafe. When using the hose there is a water gauge that you have to watch carefully, you need to fire in short bursts and let it build back up as if you let it run right down you then have to stop and wait for it to fully fill again before it will work again.

Not your everyday DS game, the levels can get a bit same looking sometimes but it's really good fun in small bursts.

Not much language knowledge needed to play, the menus are simple.
