Free Windows 10 upgrade for preview users

This is a pretty big deal for gamers due to the DX12 Features.
If for whatever reason you don't have a version of Windows that qualifies for a free upgrade, here is a great way to get it.

    insider.windows.com

join up insider and install the preview build, this will become a valid Windows 10 install at a later date.

Thanks for the tip, I'm on 8.1 right now but my parents are still on Vista.

Can I do that with WinXP? I have an older machine that could do with it.

Can Windows 10 run Plex yet?

I haven't checked but it's the only real application being used in my desktop machine these days.

Considering how long it takes to adopt the latest version of DX, I can't see it being huge. I'll continue to use 7 ta.

I upgraded 2 of my PC from win 7 to 10 a week ago. Apart from having to install new drivers for some software it seems to be pretty good although I hate all the conformation crap and "shall I run your software in this software" rubbish. Kind of like a PC for real dummies. Still, you only need to put up with that at the beginning before you tell Windows to always use the software you actually want it to use rather than the built in crap.

Funny thing on my desk top it seems slower that Win 7 but on the laptop it's pretty much the same speed as win 7 was. My desk top is way more powerful than the lap top too.

Signed up for the upgrade the other day, it'll be available for me from July 29th apparently.

I have an old laptop with Vista on it, and Ubuntu. Ubuntu doesn't support most of the non-browswer related stuff I use though (webinar / conferencing).

I've read that Windows10 is pretty good on old kit. Reckon it's worth giving it a shot? It does have a recovery partition....

rats looks likes they have gone back on it

"update " the way it is worded still sound like you will get it though as i assume the final build is the release build

Yet another change for Win10 insiders and the switch to a full licence

In short, you either started from a valid Win 7, 8, or 8.1 licence, or stay in the insider program.
