Not heard anything on it coming to consoles. Similar games may be the the Gundam Vs games (I think there is one just out). Or Virtual On are the only similar games I can think of off the top of my head.

I've never played Border Break, but JU! is right; Gundam Extreme Vs and its sequel on PS3 are conceptually similar, and naturally they're region-free. They're also very good games, even if you're not a Gundam fan.

From what little I played that's the vibe I got with sort of RPG elements as it seems to have data save of some sort.

'Border Break' Is Finally Getting A Home Console Version On The PS4 Later This Year

" game that has map progression similar to the Battlefield games. In that, you conquer and hold spawn points as you try to dominate the map over your opponent.

What makes Border Break more involved is that the backend customization of your mecha is somewhat similar to Armored Core and that in turn adds a whole other layer to the game’s combat.

The controls in the arcade version are also interesting, as Border Break uses a mouse and joystick setup along with more tactical touchscreen controls. You also have varying classes of mecha, which build on this tactical aspect further.

I have played the game in the Japanese arcades since the original iteration back in 2009, which I reviewed at the time if you are at all curious.

In terms of this console port, the game will also support mouse input, along with the standard DualShock 4, and include free-to-play monetization elements.

Normally, that would be an instant problem for a mecha game on console but Border Break comes from the arcades. So the game’s paid mecha customization is already matured and players get how it works. In that sense, I think the fact that Border Break has been going since 2009 and its arcade gaming heritage will mean it not suffer the same fate as Figureheads, which lacked any kind of contextual backing before it delved into the murky waters of free-to-play.

With an open-beta for Border Break on PS4 planned for this February, Sega will really need to ensure the online infrastructure can handle the demand, as I have a feeling that the console version of this game will be at least as big as its longrunning arcade counterpart."

            Different source:

PS4 Exclusive Mecha Game “Border Break” Announced by Sega With First Trailer and Screenshots

"Sega is bringing the popular arcade mecha franchise Border Break to PS4 as a free-to-play game in 2018, with a beta starting in Japan next month.

If you’re familiar with the Japanese arcade scene, you may know about Border Break, a popular third-person mecha shooter released in 2009, featuring battles between robots over the network. Today, during a livestream from Tokyo, Sega announced that a new Border Break game is coming to consoles.

To be more precise, the game will be released in Japan for PS4 in 2018. A beta will start in February, and it’ll be playable without the need to subscribe to PlayStation Plus.

It will be a free-to-play game, but it will not include a stamina mechanic. This will allow players to enjoy it at any time, without limitations. Of course, there will be in-game purchases involved as a business model.

The game will feature a story mode and 10 vs. 10 online battles, alongside redesigned characters and additional elements that will let players enjoy the Border Break world.

Battles will see players control mecha named “Blast Runner” competing for the control of plants and aiming to destroy the cores within the enemy base. Each Blast Runner is made of four customizable parts (head, torso, arms, legs), and can be equipped with four weapons.

Quite interestingly, while a DualShock 4 control scheme has been created for the game, mouse controls will also be supported. This is relevant because the original arcade game is controlled via mouse.

Besides the single-player Story Mode, various tiers of online matches will be available, including Beginner Match, Casual Match, and Ranked Match. Sega is working on implementing modes that will allow players without arcade experience to play comfortably.

The Story Mode will feature the main heroine Hattie, the operator Mikoto, and the main rival Marnagar, while many more characters will appear."

I thought the name sounded familiar... looks awesome, I’ll certainly be having a crack at this. And then have my soul destroyed by some 12 year old Japanese Newtype.

Wonder if theyll release a special joystick and mouse set for added arcade authenticity?
