    Final Fantasy XII "Remake?"

Lots of people on Twitter are claiming that Arnie Roth has just announced that an FFXII remake is in the works.

Apparently he said it on stage at Pittsburgh Distant Worlds.

I would like this to be true.

Remake? Surely it'll be a remaster? This game could really use a remastering as I recall the PS2 couldn't even handle the battle system when it got hectic (most boss fights) and it used to queue up actions for later when some of the other effects have died down. BOSCH!

His words were remake but I'm pretty sure he meant remaster.

Immediately sold on this, if true. I got mid-way through and never finished it, would love a high-res, definitive version.

If this comes out on Vita, like FFX HD, it will be totally tits. Never played XII and have barely even seen any video of it. I know nothing about it at all (apart from the battle system being a natural precursor to the complete abandonment of turn-based battles in FF).

XII is brilliant. No doubt we'd get the previous JP only Zodiac jobs version too which I've always wanted to play!

XII uses exactly the same battle system as the vast majority of classic FF games. It's ATB based like IV, VI, VII, VIII and IX. Maybe even V but can't remember.

                It's amazing.

I thought it was supposed to be all automated or partially real time or something...

ATB is real time on active mode. FFXII has the same active and wait modes as the others. On wait the game pauses until you enter commands.

The automation comes in the gambit system. These are predetermined choices the player has to set up such as 'Heal when HP falls under 50%'. These still need to be setup and aren't as useful in bigger fights when unexpected stuff happens.

The only other difference is that enemies are all visible. It's the evolution of the system.

Japan hated it iirc. However it was quite ahead of its time I think.

Sounds like it evolved all the way back to 1994 with Earthbound.

Not really. The enemies attacks are seamless. It's basically a single player MMO. There is no separate battle screen.

That was good whenever it happened in FFX.

The main issues were with the story and characters. The game itself was superb.

My only other niggle is that all characters become carbon copies once you'd levelled them up- but that was fixed in the Zodiac job release.

Still annoyed the relegated Basch to a side character and put Vaan and Penelo as the mains even though they had nothing to do with the story- all so the Japanese had some little quaffed teens they could relate too...
