I'm not entirely sure myself, just going on memory. I think it's countered when you use certain moves.

Game I played recently, can't termer which, it had boss with a major weak point that if you attacked you took a massive counter in return. Don't attack the weak point and victory is easy.

Admittedly I wasn't thinking of that one. Chrono Cross boss I think.

That was the prime reason why i never really liked FFXII. Both the characters (bar Balthier) and the story were weak and unfinished which just so happens to be the two most important aspects to an RPG i.m.o. It also lacked a proper world map which made it feel more linear than it already was.

It also didn't have any real sidequests or mini games like Chocobo Breeding in FFVII or Triple Triad in FFVIII or the Chocograph treasure hunt in FFIX or Blitzball in FFX. There was a quest where you had to find and kill rare enemies but they were simply enemys already seen only with a different colour palette. Also many areas throughout the game felt underpopulated with some of the towns in particular just not feeling alive enough.

I found the soundtrack to be good though. Some pieces were amazing (The Stiltshrine Of Myriam, The Tomb Of Raithwall, whilst others were just good. The battle system and gambits were amazing too and i only wish they had kept that system for all FF games onward.

Overall I don't hate it i just think it's overrated and i do hope it gets the remaster treatment as i would like to play through it again with HD graphics and to play through some of the lovely locations again but i don't think it will change my feelings about the game.

It's hard to call a game overrated that totally redefined the single player RPG with a system that is copied 10 years later.

It's hard not to call a game overrated that features all the weaknesses i mentioned in my previous post. I definitely feel it's overrated for those reasons i mentioned. I also felt the licence board was too basic and was uncovered too quickly which must of been a feeling shared by Square Enix as they released an International Zodiac Job System version of the game with 12 Licence boards compared to the 1 in the original.

And redefining something doesn't make something great and i don't think FFXII did redefine anything. The one thing great in the game the battle system was dropped for FFXIII because unfortunately there were gamers out there that hated it and unfortunately Square Enix listened to that despite the fact that i.m.o it was the wrong criticisms of the game they were listening to.

To put it simply, Famitsu gave it a perfect score. And yet Both Matsuno (The games original Developer before leaving) & Kawazu (The games producer) stated that they felt the game was not perfect.
They expressed frustration & regret at what they felt was a weak and unfinished plot which is something alot of the fans particularly in Japan agreed with.

So therfor i think i have good reasons for saying the game was overrated which is how the original Developer and Producer felt. Im not saying it's a bad game and I know you love it Mart but come on be objective here.

                Seems legit.

I love that it was a mistranslation as well, and attacking it with its tail up gets you mullered lmao

I never sussed it out. I ended up grinding until I could survive the laser it fired as a counter-attack.

Hahaha ! I think it needed a "..." and not a "!" and the following sentence makes it make sense. You just got to wait until it puts its tail down lmao

I'll check what the Reunion translation does with it tonight.

Loved the original one to bits as my post from back in 2007 testifies, shame my screencaps aren't online anymore but you get the gist. Seeing how much I played the last one I'm not excited by this, am I the only one who feels remakes are like paying a bloke 40 quid to come and wipe your memory card so you have to start again?

Now I'm farming items to make Tournsol. I was worried that maxing out the levels would make things easy but there are still a few places that can put up a fight!

The zodiac job system excites me most, making the characters less interchangeable with more specific roles and abilities.

Proper remakes are to experience something again but with a new coat of paint, and HD re-releases are mainly for people who missed out on a title the first time around. The latter's a big deal for games like FFXII that came out in that cross-over period between the PS2/PS3.

Yeah, I never played XII and would welcome it on something I could play it on. But I don't have a PS4 and I can't imagine they'd bother making it for Vita at this point.
