Anyone ever play the triple screen Darius?

Funnily enough, searching for a picture of the cab came across my own post in this thread:
    www.bordersdown.net/threads/115296-Fantasy-Arcade-If-you-won-the-lottery/page3

I had this poster (possibly from Mean Machines) on my bedroom wall for years!

Did anyone ever play the Galaxian3 cab?

Finally, I used to play this great game on Windows where it was all wireframe and you took on ever increasing bosses.
It was just boss battles, but the boss got more weapons and parts each level. Does anyone know the name of the game I'm talking about?

Yeah we used to have the Galaxian 3 in Portsmouth Clarence Pier, biggest videogame I ever saw was more like a cinema!!

Recently got the Playstation version and its naff, its got a line down the middle of the screen where theyve bodged the arcade video together!!

Older style shmups got me into the genre, like Soukyugurentai and Battle Garegga (yes, I'd played spaceship shooters before but I didn't go nuts for them until I got these). Obviously the Saturn was a great system to jump onboard. Sexy Parodius was another huge highlight. Love that game.

But the Cave phenomenon took it to another level for me. I dabbled/fumbled with DaiOuJou, Ibara, Galuda and Mushihimesama on PS2 but it was the whole Cave / Xbox 360 thing that really blew my mind (for me it's the most exciting thing to happen to console gaming in the last 10 years). I'm not amazing at them, and I've found I really need to treat my J360 like a cab, keeping only one game in the system for weeks at a time. It's the only way I get any better at any particular title. But the dedication delivers huge rewards in both high score chasing and the thrills the gameplay can provide. By that I mean getting something just right and filling the screen with bonus numbers or gold or the like. It just feels so good

So I love Saturn era shooters and I really love Cave shooters. No real preference over vert or hori. And for something slightly different Tempest is wonderful.

The only shmups I'm not overly bothered about are generally Euro-developed affairs and those cel-shaded ones on the Dreamcast, just never liked the look of them for some reason.

Aw, forgot. Infinity Danger on 360. An XBLIG game and sooooooo playable. Played it so much I got pretty high on the worldwide leaderboards at one point. It was like 80 pence or something. Unbelievably awesome stuff. Just thinking about it gets me pumped...been a long time, time to re-DL I think...if I still can!

I think anyone on here who has a 360 and likes shooty stuff should give it a try and report back!!!!

            Oh well done, Jazzy!

I've not played that, but it's based on the game I was thinking of called Warning Forever. It was amazing!

I'll definitely check out Infinity Danger, thanks.

There's another fun shooter on the 360 Indie Marketplace called Shoot 1UP. It has a fun mechanic where each time you get an extra life, you pilot it at the same time, up to 30 ships!

I should've been sorting out my games room last night, but only got as far as plugging in the Dreamcast (thanks again, Malc!) and playing Trizeal!

It's fun, but it upsets me when I'm showered in bonuses too numerous that I can't possibly pick them all up!

Gradius V is the best horizontal scrolling shooter of all time (fact)

Mars matrix and soukyu gurentai might not be the greatest vertical scrolling shooters of all time but they are definitely my two favourites

I'm not very good at shmups but I enjoy them.

I like modern stuff like Resogun, Stardust HD, Geometry Wars.

I *really* like Cave stuff like ESPGaluda, Dodonpachi and Mushihimesama.

I was really into shmups when I had my DC. Ikaruga, Triggerheart Excelica, Radirgy etc.

I had Gradius V but it never really jelled with me so I sold it on (forget who to now)
It was a solid enough game but just not for me.

I'm actually just about to be in the market to pick up Region free copies of Mushi Futari & Espa 2 again as my CAVE collection boxset is in storage & I really fancy playing them again.

Not played that many shmups apart from back in the day. No preference for vertical or horizontal really. Like R-Type, Ikaruga, Borderdown and more recently Under Defeat

It's a bit odd, but I only really like shmups if you're piloting and awesome ship.

It doesn't feel right when you're a person.

Mind you, Cloud Master, where you play Monkey on his magic cloud, is pretty good fun!

I wouldn't call Kiki Kaikai a shooter though?

what would you call it then? i always thought of it as a shooter. it doesn't have the forced scrolling but it adheres to the genre in every other way

What was that recent one on the 360/PS3 that was the same style...I still want to play it but have totally forgotten the name
