What's in the Metroid limited edition?

    Comment

A copy of the freshly released volume 2 of the cuphead comic, hoping they continue making these as i really love what they have done they totally have nailed the feel of the game in comic form. The people drawing it need a hearty pat on the back as they have expanded on the world they all inhabit, this volume even includes characters from the DLC that's incoming.

Outside of the huge & quite frankly amazing artbook that was released last year these mini comics are the best of the remaining books that have been released.

A special book arrived today been waiting for this for most of the year as i pre ordered back in feb but it got delayed several times, i was tempted to go for the version signed by iwatani himself but i didn't feel like adding nearly £200 to the price the limited version was already pretty expensive. Went for the limited to 2000 version with the amazing slipcase & goodies, the thing is a beast it weighs nearly 4kg, dilemma time the shipping box has a pacman on & i don't know if i can bring myself to bin it

It's full of little details for the fans

like the kill screen when you open the slip case.

          The back

The 2 books inside one is the main one

The other book contains a reprint of the pacman fever song on vinyl and a pacman arcade token

"There's a Donkey Kong killscreen coming up"

Very cool, what is actually inside the book itself?

              Everything,

It lists everything you could ever want to know starting with the interviews with the dev on how he was created, very detailed segments with craploads of pics about how the game was programmed loads of the design document pics & the source code. It's wild seeing the original design prototypes from Iwatani there's segments on the merchandise & the cultural impact of pacman himself outside the game plus it's journey from japan to the west the book is super thick hundreds of pages. I only had a quick flick through to make sure all the pages were printed ok (a quirk of mine)

There's a LOT of pics it's def a coffee table kind of book but there's a lot of interesting stuff to read, if you like pacman then it's a must have. I don't buy many videogame related book but when i saw this one i had to have it as pacman is a fave of mine. If you want to see a few sample pages i can do a few for you if you want.

That's kind, thanks, but I don't want to put you to the bother. Sounds really good though. I do really like Pac-Man.

That label in the first picture and this conversation makes it look like they delivered it to the wrong forumite.

I've had another book from Cook & Becker before (the FFXV artbook) and was very impressed with the range of mediums and the overall quality. This one looks great too!

It's really no bother at all wakka i have it sat here beside me, i took a random selection so at least you can get a rough idea of whats inside but there's so much they have gone into every aspect of it. It's a thorough telling of his history from the very beginning right upto his current form, it's gonna take me a while to get through it.

This is the source code for the game they list loads of it

                    And some other pics....

Very good point actually. Importaku if you would be so kind as to inspect the cardboard box you'll see it's addressed to me, best you just forward it on at your earliest convenience.

My username is taken from the Pac-Man noise. Sometimes people think it's an FF10 ref though. But it isn't. So there.

lol it barely even got to me the seal was already broken when it got here the weight of the book must have torn it open, they didn't use any extra tape apart form that white label. Thankfully someone must have put it back and closed it up again at fedex, i had a feeling your nickname was from pacman. Thankfully the regular edition is not limited so there'll be plenty of them to go around, while it's not a cheap book it's totally worth the money for a pacman fan.

Have a small collection going on now with this, couple of small pacman arcades, some figures & now this book. It's nice to see pacman get some love, he's one of the original gaming progenitors & yet even after all these years he's still out there doing his thing. He has a timeless charm that a lot of games don't have, the formula is simple & yet it can be mixed up into some crazy games. Pacman 99 been his latest but the pacman air hockey table in the arcades is insane fun especially when the thing releases all the stored up pucks in the side and they flood the table in a air hockey puck frenzy.

Stupidly I haven't even played Pac-Man 99 and to be honest forgot it was even a thing. I'm going to get onto that today.

And yeah, Pac-Man is great. A timeless game. Weirdly one version I played an absolute ton of was the iPod version. You swiped the click wheel (remember those?) to play, which sounds awful, but with practise you could actually get some really strong cornering going.

Because I'm never going to be someone really playing for score (other than beating my own personal bests), I actually quite like the predictability of the patterns in the original game. You start to get a real instinct for where the ghosts are going to go. It's fun. Of course Ms Pac-Man is great too and much harder to 'game' in that way.

I remember when Pac-Man Championship Edition first dropped on 360. That was awesome and probably the first download-only console game that I really loved. An excellent adaptation.

I remember seeing the ipod games but never got to try any of them. I wish they would re-release the championship edition for switch the x360 original plays differently to the championship 2 edition but i at least have that in the arcade pac switch game also have the famicom demake that comes in the namcot collection. That one is surprisingly fun, never thought the famicom would be able to pull something like that off.

Arcade club have a lot of the various pacman games but sadly not the air hockey one but when i used to go for my weekly leeds ac visit i would go upstairs when i was feeling tired and needed a rest from standing up and the insane amounts of noise. The leeds one has a ms pacman cocktail cabinet upstairs in the retro floor where's it's quiet so i used to take a drink up with me and sit for an hour at the cocktail cab and just play ms pacman for ages as nobody would ever be on it. Quiet & super cozy up there with the sounds of the rest of the machines in the background it's a nice way to experience it.

                              Too addicted to Blitzball!

I used to love it back when Casino on Goodge St was still a thing, that almost every time I went in, the same guy was sat playing Ms Pac-Man, rinsing it out HARD. I'm sure someone's since told me that he's up there in the world rankings for the game, though I don't know any details. Was just nice though, there being a dedicated regular for such a classic game.

I had forgotten all about Casino! Was a cool little spot.
