    Paper Mario WiiU

Word has emerged that Intelligent Systems is currently localising and testing a new Paper Mario entry for the WiiU.

Presumably Nintendo will be aiming for a second half 2016 release.

Hope its good. Have and love the N64 and GCN versions. Hated the Wii entry.

Yeah, disappointed. I heard the rumour about a so-far-unknown AAA WiiU game last week to be announced soon, and I would've picked anything else apart from Donkey Kong.

        I mean we've just had a 3DS one.

I'd even have picked a new Mario Strikers or something daft like that.

Sorry to seem so negative, I know the Paper Mario series has its fans but I never get along with Mario RPGs.

I guess even fans realize that the series has been going downhill for quite some time.

          Yay. Another Mario game.
I would be totally in for a proper 3D Mario game...or a 2D one with more interesting levels than the New Mario Bros. series.

Agreed. Those games just don't do it for me as the plat forming is so uninspired and not one of them has even a bit of the charm, replay ability or ingenuity of super Mario world.

Yet they pay so they crank them out again and again.

NSMBU is the second-best 2D Mario behind SMW. The world map and the levels are fantastic. The only reason the older games seem more charming is down to nostalgia.

The plants and koopas bob to the music, how much more charm do you want?

NSMBU/NSLU looks great but it is pretty much a carbon-copy of NSMB Wii and NSMB2. Modern 2D Mario has become totally identikit when SMB1-SMW all had a unique look and style to them.

And as far as Mario RPGs go, I've never really been hot on the Paper Mario series but AlphaDream's Mario & Luigi RPG games are excellent RPGs that are well-written and with great humour (Bowser's Inside Story especially).

I need to really get involved in the fantasy world of an RPG to care, and I've never found Mario's world engaging enough.

Would you honestly say the gameplay of the modern titles is even a patch on the older ones? There are no zones/themes that make that much of a difference as the stages in the previous titles were hugely varied and entertaining. A lot of this just seems phoned in after the success of the DS title without much thought or imagination.

Exactly and that's what I meant by charm as each island/section had a huge amount of individuality and methods of gameplay plus the whole Star Road thing/Warp Whistles etc... and all the little secrets you could discover. Nintendo are being lazy with the dev on this one and realistically the whole NSMB series is just one game extended out across a few platforms and iterations with nothing to really differentiate each title whereas the older ones each had their quirks and played differently.

Super Mario 3 is very tough and wonderfully made. It's also hugely different to World which is the pinnacle.

Super Mario Bros 2 Japan wasn't released here because back then Nintendo were more bothered about releasing the same old thing. Hence we never got armies of sequels on the same systems.
