    Welcome to the DDR thread...

'cause all good gaming forums should have one!

Does anyone have DDR Extreme yet on the Jap PS2?
I've been trying to unlock everything but the most evil track of all is proving to be most impossible even if I cheat and use a joypad.

Yes, goddamn you Konami, you really have excelled yourself by making 'The Legend of Max' (apparently the third sequel to Max 300) the most baddest, catchiest, most insanely hard and really cool progressive track ever... Well done Konami!

Now, I just need to see some videos of someone triple A's this track!

Also has anyone seen DDR Ultramix yet on the Xbox? This is soooo piss poor when compared to Jap PS2 versions of DDR Max 2 and DDR Extreme...

Make any comments here or say anything positive about DDR!

I've alwyas wanted to get into this genre but never had the money or hardware(PS2). Now though I have a PS2 and incoming xmas money so I might have to pick up one of the latest releases. Has anyone got that collectors edition one? It comes in a KFC-like tub and features a mix of the best old songs and some new ones thrown in, so would that be a good place to start?

Also I hear people saying they prefer Pump it up, how does it compare to DDR?

How many songs are in the home version? Is it around 220, like the arcade?

I heard a rumour that The Legend of Max will be the last DDR Max song.

Phillai - do you have any of the Euro PS2 releases? I'd be interested to know what the extra modes are in DDR Extreme.

      Cheers.

PIU is more for the old skool London freestylers.
DDR is definitely more for the UK mainstream people as they got a massive monopoly over the dance games and more or less tried to stop the company giving us PIU in the UK and US...

If I remember correctly the Jap PS2 version of DDR Extreme has something like 170 songs on it but I'm not 100% sure... It's certainly got loads more than any of the other releases and I'm sure it's more or less double the amount of tracks from DDR Max 2!

As for the rumour about the Legend of Max being the last song... Well I don't know about that but believe me, this is absolutely insanely hard!

The UK versions of DDR are really piss poor. The latest version is Dancing Stage Fever and it's only got about 40 tracks and most of them are pure cheesy tracks! The only thing in this UK release's favour is that alot of the UK songs have all full FMV in the backgroud like Kylie's Spinning Around.

Not 100% sure about all the modes in DDR Extreme but it does have a Oni mode which I've not tried and a challenge mode where it gives you a certain amount of tracks and you got three lives to go thru it all the way with either perfects or greats thru out the tracks...

Not sure if many people know this but I got my DDR Max 2 and DDR Extreme from konamistyle's website and I got a music CD totally free with each one...

PIU is more for the old skool London freestylers.
Pump it up was massive wherever it was properly promoted - in Korea it was insanely popular with stupidly big tournaments held in the olympic stadium in Seoul. It also took off in Brazil and Mexico, and here in London amonst the players who are into dance itself rather than the score attack play - but lack of further promotion killed it.

DDR was for score attacking and very hard step sequences to challenge players, the step sheep design is like playing Beatmaina with your feet (technically tricky stages but lots of scope for highscore challenge) - Pump was for dance, the step sheets are designed for routines (was the case in earlier versions but later versions went the DDR route destroying what set it apart)....and dyed hair.....and baggy silver PVC!!!1

I hate that term "Freestyler" what is it meant to mean???

Well, my good man, I wish I could tell you more about Dance:UK. Its out now, and I'm not really allowed to pass comment on it. For many reasons.

Just play it with an open mind - its not designed for brers!

You cant pass comment? Something must not be right about it then

I heared from someone just now that you dont actually have to time your steps to the music - that cant be right can it?

Ahhhh right so PIU is more for style based gameplay rather than Hi-scores? Ugh I might just have to buy both and see which I prefer. So has anyone had any experience with this:

Dance Dance Revolution Party Collection [incl. Controller] for PlayStation 2Dance Dance Revolution Party Collection features tons of party tunes to dance dance to! Next to a lot of titles already seen in previous DDR games, some new surprises will await you...

Seems to be a good starting point imo

Legend of Maxx as the last DDR song?

I assume you chaps are yet to meet MAX. (pronounced max period)? The final section is about 600 bpm, and the video is a kind of history of DDR. Many people think this could be the final DDR song. It doesn't take too long to unlock on Extreme.

Seriously, IMHO DDR Extreme is the only home version worth bothering with now; it's got all the songs and modes you could reasonably want.

I meant the last sequel to Max 300.

Its designed for 12 year old girls. There is nothing in the title designed for anyone here. At all!

You do have to time your steps to the music, you just get lots of leeway.

I love the DDR titles, but there's not enough room in my bedroom for it! Are the Japanese ones easy to navigate (text-wise)?
