I am bewildered by the success of the Switch when I look at its catalogue of games. Not that it doesn’t have great games, just so few of them. All personal taste of course.

Back again to depress me, GTA5 has now passed 130m lifetime units helping millions upon millions of gamers to rebuy and replay the same installment for the ninth time because the studio won't put out a new one.
Take Two's profits were bumper high once again as RDR2 rode to 31m units sold and Outer Worlds reached 2.5m units. NBA2K20 is on course to be the most successful entry. Borderlands 3 is outselling Borderlands 2 as well by 50%, hitting 10m units so far.
Take Two also expects the next year to be another bumper money earner by... continuing to lean on GTA5, RDR2 etc and releasing little else in what is anticipated to be another 'light year'. There's a slight nod that key new sequels etc might start arriving in 2022/2023 - almost a decade since GTA5 launched.

The games, on the other hand. Nintendo are only in this business to sell their software, and they're really, really good at selling games. Even WiiU ones.

New financials for Q2 from Nintendo paint a rosey picture for their balance sheets, not so much for inspiring them to make new games more ofen though:

In its brief time on sale the collection has shifted 5.21m units
Paper Mario: The Origami King
The main 2020 intended new title has shifted 2.82m units to date
