The bit I love most in Final Fantasy 7 is AFTER Sephiroth stabs Aeris.

Jenova shows up and a huge battle kicks off - all the while the sad music of Aeris's death carries on playing, seeing Bahamut tear through the sky and Cloud unleash his limit break to that soundtrack is just TOO wicked.

This sums up the story for me: no matter how hard you fight and even if you win you cant change what has happened or what is predetermined.

      FFVII

Why? It's my fave game of all time
None of the other FF games I've played(FF6, FF8, FF10) come even slightly close to the brilliance of FF7 IMO.

It's the sort of game I'll want to play again in 10, 20 years time. I honestly can't say the same about the other Final Fantasy games.

This topic never goes away :-)

ff7 although the battle system in x-2 is the best of the series imo.

ff3 is the best famicom title and tactics (the original not the piece of crap gba incarnation) holds a special place in my heart.

Its a shame there's no FF4 apologists here as that is a special title too.

Final Fantasy VII here too, for all the reasons previously mentioned.. I also loved the fact that both the good guys AND the bad guys are both super cool.. (Doesn't happen very often - another good example of this is the film the Lost Boys)

I loved Sephiroth and I loved Cloud. I loved the twists and turns of the storyline. I played this again recently actually and I immediately got drawn into it all again.. exploring Midgar, and spending all my Gil on the Chocobo races lol.

Recently I haven't been playing anything other than Final Fantasy XI.. and I think the more I play it the more it's going to overtake VII as my favourite. I am so hooked! I am only level 15 and there is so much to do, so much to find out.

I liked FFVIII, it was always so misunderstood
I don't think it was misunderstood, I just think its more of an aquired taste than some of the others. I played it almost to the end.. the only thing I had left to do was kill the final bad lady, but I never really got into it. I found it quite hard going.. My brother really liked it and finished it several times, but it just wasn't my cup of tea.

            7 8)
for all the reasons stated above.
i just couldnt stop playing it, even wasting hours on end just leveling up all the characters as far as they would go even though it was totally unecesary.
i also spent a lot of time playing with chocobos and racing them.

I played it almost to the end.. the only thing I had left to do was kill the final bad lady, but I never really got into it.
            ditto.
got to the end of 8 and realised i couldnt care less what happened.

(i still think Xenogears is better even than FF7 though )

FF5 for me, though it's almost a dead heat with 6. The music was fantastic (though give me an FF game where this isn't true), the story was interesting, and the jobs and abilities gave you so much freedom to develop your characters exactly how you want. By the end, Butz could wield two obscenely powerful swords, and attack 4 times in one move, meaning 8 slashes per turn.

atm its a close call between 8 and 6(3?) mainly because I'm mid playing FF7 but im finding it really hard to get into, keep forgetting where im meant to be goinhg heh. Hopefully after finishing disc 1 it will hook me like most of you have been.

VII until I got lost at the end. I'm thinking of restarting it and giving it another go now that I'm all mature. It was my first real RPG. Thanks Sony great marketing...

I kind of liked IX because of Vivi.
